However, they remained open to exploring various ways of integrating these elements to create a truly unique living space. The result – a stunning and striking $84,000 renovation that seamlessly blends these bold interiors without appearing haphazard or obtrusive.
Industrial design living room
In the living room, set against a faux brick and concrete screed feature wall, is a customised neon light fixture. Its design, inspired by stock graphs, references Kenneth’s work in financial investments.
A black geometric metal grille not only adds an industrial touch but also cleverly zones the living area from the corridor leading to the rooms.
Bold yellow interior
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the living area is the bright yellow "cargo container" that appears to be sitting in the middle of the flat, creating a bold and eye-catching backdrop. This industrial element seamlessly blends with the concrete screed flooring, featuring painted yellow strips of various widths and lengths, framing the entrance to the kitchen.
Reclaimed wood shelves
Chek Yong sits in the study, which features built-in storage and display shelving made using reclaimed wood from old houses in Malaysia.
Open concept kitchen and dining
The kitchen has an open-concept cooking and dining space, and sees the housemates spending lots of time there cooking and working.
Industrial decor elements
Here, creative use of metal mesh panels serves as a wall-mounted utensil rack, further reinforcing the industrial theme.
Hidden door
A door that blends into the surface of the “cargo container” opens to reveal the spacious master bedroom, which has an inviting feel with wood tones and warm colours.
Metal hoarding panels wall cladding
Stepping into the spacious master bedroom, a sense of warmth and comfort envelops you. Yiyun cleverly cladded a wall with corrugated metal hoarding panels spray-painted in a cheery sunny yellow, achieving a unique and inviting effect.
Framing the entrance to the kitchen, the design language of the “cargo container” flows onto the concrete screed flooring, with painted yellow strips of various widths and lengths.
Green toilet subway tiles
Even the bathrooms showcase bold interiors, with subway tiles in an intense green shade adorning the walls, adding a pop of color to these often overlooked spaces.
Creative yet comfortable home
Throughout the flat, interesting textures, eye-catching details, and vibrant colors come together with hand-picked finds, creating an abode that is not only inspiring but also remarkably comfortable – a true testament to the power of bold interiors and industrial design elements.
