After living in this four-room HDB flat in Tanjong Pagar for 19 years, the homeowners decided it was time for a revamp. They entrusted Jay Ang of J + A — the same interior designer they worked with years ago — to give their home a brand new look.

Though the existing flat layout remained relatively unchanged, Jay created more space by converting all swing doors into sliding doors. "As these slide neatly into recesses, it saves space and prevent knocks and collisions," says Jay.

The renovation, which cost $110,000, includes all joinery and carpentry works, a change in sanitary ware and plumbing works, as well as new flooring for the entire flat. Jay opted for lime-wash oak timber porcelain tiles.
Powder coated steel open shelves give the kitchen a modern and contemporary look. It's also easy to maintain -- a requirement of the homeowner's.

"A bigger shower compartment and vanity counter was also designed for both mother and daughter," shares Jay.
