Home to a couple and their newborn child, the owners wanted their five-room flat in Holland Close to be able to accommodate the evolving needs of their young family.

Mei Ying and Terence of multi-disciplinary design studio Studio Myte conceptualised an open-concept plan for the home, which combined the living, dining and kitchen areas into a large singular space.

Besides allowing the outgoing couple to host gatherings comfortably, the open layout also allows plenty of light to penetrate the home, such as from the glass doors of the adjacent study.

A U-shaped countertop maximises space for food preparation in the compact kitchen.

A free-standing bookshelf cleverly serves as a divider and privacy screen at the entrance to the home.

While the communal spaces of the home are kept open, the bedrooms enjoy a heightened sense of privacy. A handsome American walnut slab, supplied by local wood supplier Grey and Sanders, was used to make a door separating the two zones.

The designers purposed a lounge area along the corridor with a built-in bookshelf and storage unit.

The walls of the common rooms were hacked and replaced with a foldable partition.

When folded away, the flexible partition allows the owners to be closer to their son when he is in his bedroom. Otherwise, the same partition can be used to close up the space.

The bathroom maintains the same wood look with the rest of the home.
