This spacious 3,000sqf four-bedroom condominium off River Valley is the weekend getaway of a Malaysian couple in their 50s and their two grown-up children.
The family wanted the home to be transformed into a cosy retreat tailor-made for relaxation. Designers Ummi NH and Elden Lim from Substance Living decided on a visual theme based on strong lines, centred on the image of a ribbon as the concept to unite the different spaces in the home.
In the living and dining area, this takes the form of its focal point: Floor-to-ceiling feature panels in the shape of a large "X", which create a walkway to the kitchen and hence re-organise the area to improve spatial flow.
Because the living space is where the family enjoy their entertainment system, Ummi used fabric-wrapped acoustic panels to enhance their audio experience, giving the design another functional purpose.
The bespoke study table, which is cantilevered over the window ledge, moves along its length. A cutout at one corner of the TV feature wall gives it an asymmetrical look.
The designers devised a screen-and-display niche to shield the bed from the entrance. Framed prints and chair from Xtra.
Mounted on a wall-to-ceiling feature panel, the bookshelf in the son's room look almost like an art piece. Double-layered blinds with an extra blackout layer allow him to block out the sun completely.
The daughter wanted a blue-based space, and her lifestyle and preference dictated the look of her bedroom.
Curved elements feature heavily in the daughter's room, which sports grey tones to match the predominant blue hues. A stylist from the ID firm proposed the wallpaper for the wall-to-ceiling panel.
Compartments with flip-down doors in the storage-and-display wall keep the daughter's many bags free of dust.
