House Tour: Butterflies and Pop art in this unorthodox bachelor pad

To say this 30-year-old apartment isn’t your average HDB three-roomer would be quite an understatement. Last renovated 10 years ago, the bachelor owner wanted to refresh its dated look and create one that, as designer and good friend Lush Tan from Amphibios Creative puts it, would “express happiness in life”.

Jeremy's penchant for Pop Art and modern classic furniture is evident although the home itself is, as he puts it, a mix of everything he likes. 

Vertical blinds were chosen over horizontal ones as they can be angled to let more natural light into the apartment.

The homeowner's LP covers line an entire length of the living area, as do his CDs in the bedroom. Previously tucked away due to a lack of space, Lush opted for visible storage this time as "it's a waste not to display them".

Layering artificial turf over a bank of cabinets transforms unsightly storage into a striking feature wall.

Epoxy paint was used in the bathroom due to its hard-earing and anti-mould properties. Plants in coconut husks add a natural, organic touch.

The centrepiece in the butterfly-themed bedroom is the dramatic, oversized Ikea pendant lamp, which Lush surrounded with striking cutouts of butterflies that filter the light for a softer glow.

To maximise floor area, the storage cabinets - featuring doors with butterflies - were designed to wrap precisely around the bed.
