This black-and-white bungalow gets updated with trendy greys and fresh jolts of yellow and green, and now has a old-world charm with contemporary tweak.

The yellow silk drapes in the living room contrast boldly with the black ceiling and window frames, while echoing the softer yellow florals of the armchairs, which are covered in a fabric by Australian designer Florence Broadhurst.

Green and black stripes bring a contemporary feel to the grand pre-war architecture of the enclosed dining verandah. "The colour was dictated by the lush tropical views," Nikki explains of the space.

The family room has an earthier colour scheme with a range of browns, from tan to chocolate to camel. Nikki used a palette of warm browns in zebra-print upholstered ottomans, a leather lounge and stool from Minotti, and framed sepia prints.

Grey takes the spotlight again in the master bedroom: A quilted and buttoned Chesterfield-style bed upholstered in shimmery grey fabric is flanked by custom-made black and white side tables topped by chrome lamps with Rococo-print shades.
