After having lived in their penthouse for 15 years, the homeowners felt that it was time to reconfigure their apartment to better suit the needs of the family, especially as their three children came of age to be teenagers.

The couple, who are in their 40s, wanted a contemporary-style home where they can entertain guests and spend time as a family. They also wanted spaces and rooms that each family member can call their own and where they can pursue their personal interests.

The family area, affectionately referred to as the “den”, is where the family hangs out. This is where they watch TV together, or simply catch up on their day.

Kitchen
The lady of the house is an avid cook and baker who loves to experiment with different cuisines and cooking styles.

Kelvin of Renaissance Planners and Designers designed an open-concept dry kitchen with a large island countertop, where she can interact with her husband and children, or mingle with guests while cooking.

The dry kitchen has plenty of built-in storage cabinets constructed using African blackwood, to accommodate the wifeʼs arsenal of culinary equipment.

Master Bedroom
The master suites comprise the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and a master bathroom. The use of a slightly darker palette creates a cosy ambience. A reading corner heightens the relaxing mood.

Travertine Bathroom
The dark travertine walls and floor of the master bathroom – together with a sunken bath – give it a cave-like, cocooning quality that is conducive for unwinding after a long day.

Study Table
A cosy study area was designed next to the window in one of the children’s bedrooms, so there is less reliance on artificial lighting.
