House Tour: Five-room HDB BTO flat that mixes French and Scandi-inspired styles
By Home & Decor Team -
Designer Kelvin Teo of Space Sense gave the owners, a young couple, of this five-room BTO HDB flat a home with a design inspired by a mix of French and Scandinavian styles. The brief called for an overall look and feel that is homey and inviting.
In the living area, there is an open-concept layout. The TV feature wall resembles a faux fireplace using stone-look tiles, while "ceiling rafters" housing downlights were added to enhance the modern French cottage look.
As the husband loves cooking and entertaining, Kelvin created a wet and dry kitchen, separated by a glass lattice door.
For the dry kitchen, the monochromatic patterened tiles jazz up a simple, functional peninsula counter.
As the homeowners also like the retro style, he says, he incorporated accents and furnishings with the look, such as the traditional-looking wooden barstools.
As the master bedroom is small, says the designer, he designed a bed that appears to float to reduce the visual bulk.
A focal point was also created by adding faux bricks and display shelves to a recessed portion of the wall. The built-in wardrobe was also made more interesting with some ornamentation added, in keeping with the design theme.
