Interior design studio Alphonso Ideas helped the homeowner to maximise the available space in his new apartment by creating an open kitchen in her living room.
Not only did this help to make the room look wider and more inviting, it also means that guests can now choose to settle on the armchair by the television or around the kitchen island.
If you look at the ceiling, you will see the structural beam where a wall used to separate the living area from the kitchen. By doing away with the wall, the homeowner now has an open space.
Downlights above the sofa also help to create a sense of drama in the area, allowing the colour of the sofa to stand out in the neutral palette.
Notice how the artworks on the wall also feature colours picked off from the elements in the room, ranging from black to white to beige.
Similarly, the shades of the leather upholstery used in the dining chairs are in the same tone as the sofa.
The white cabinetry along the kitchen area help to make the cooking area look seamlessly connected to the rest of the room.
The usual practice is to place a dining table next to the kitchen island, this way it extends the space on the island while at the same time also allows the cook to mingle with the diners when dinner is being prepared.
