Home Tour: $30,000 Black and white renovation for a 2-bedroom condo
Throwback to this cosy and warm apartment renovated in 2016.

The homeowners of this cosy 2-bedroom condo unit decided to go for the black-and-white theme after a discussion with their interior designer Astley Ng of Soho Interiors + Studio Arc. “The couple wanted something modern but with more cosiness and colour, so I thought a black-and-white theme jazzed up with interesting decorative touches would work,” explains Astley.
Mirror wall
A large black shoe cabinet might have looked heavy and overbearing. So, a tinted mirror was fitted above it to give it a “floating suspended” feel. The mirror not only visually doubles the entry space but also reflects light throughout, creating an atmosphere of expansiveness that belies the actual square footage of this intimate condo.
Black and white interior design
The most prominent black-and-white design in the home is the feature wall leading to the master bedroom. The striped wall was created by spray-painting solid pieces of wood in black, then placing them a few centimetres apart from one another on the white wall.
Walk-in wardrobe
The walk-in wardrobe is hidden by a curtain — a clever alternative to wardrobe door. When drawn closed, the flowing fabric creates a sense of mystery and softness; when open, it reveals an impeccably organized storage system that keeps daily necessities accessible yet concealed.
Raised platform study corner
The spacious upholstered settee on a raised platform doubles as a cosy study corner, so there’s no need for a “formal” study area or bulky desk. The elevated platform visually separates this area from the surrounding space, creating a distinct zone without requiring walls or partitions that would diminish the openness of the compact condo floor plan.
Plush upholstery in carefully selected neutral tones maintains the black-and-white theme while adding essential comfort for extended periods of use.
Warm and cosy master bedroom
The master bedroom is made warm and cosy with downlights and earthy hues. Cushion, from Lifestorey. The careful introduction of earth tones through textiles and accessories grounds the monochromatic scheme, creating visual comfort that encourages relaxation.
