Home Tour: Bold interior design for this 3-room HDB flat in Telok Blangah
This stylish home from 2016 continues to inspire us!
This 3-bedroom HDB flat in Telok Blangah showcases bold interior design choices through a fearless mix of colors, prints, and industrial elements. Owned by Clarence Tay and his partner, the over 40-year-old 700 sq ft home underwent a complete overhaul to create an open-concept living and dining space, a spacious bedroom, and a galley kitchen.
Bold interior design choices
One of the boldest interior design statements is the striped accent wall in the living room. Clarence cleverly used the wall treatment to camouflage a protruding structural column, on which a lamp is now mounted. The industrial-style lamp adds to the edgy, urban vibe.
Colourful home decor
The couple decorated with accessories featuring pops of bold color, such as glass vases in various hues acquired at an auction.
Unique decor
An unmissable industrial touch is Clarence's prized Timothy Oulton lamp shaped like a curved ruler beside his study area.
Bold accent lighting
To create a cozy, restful ambiance, the homeowners opted for dim lighting throughout with strategic pockets of bold accent lighting. This bold interior design choice enhances the moody, intimate feel.
Minimalist kitchen
While most of the spaces embrace vibrant colors and patterns, the kitchen provides a clean, minimalist contrast in shades of grey and white. The sleek, handleless cabinets with Blum systems add an understated industrial vibe.
Bold key colours
Tying the entire home together is the repetition of a few key colors used boldly yet cohesively. The black window frames in the bedroom match the standout black tiles in the adjoining bathroom for a seamless, curated look.
Industrial concrete walls
The en-suite bathroom, which has a separate WC, has two entrances – one from the kitchen, and another from the bedroom.
Bold art-deco tiles
Those bold, Art Deco-inspired bathroom tiles were chosen for their subtle green tint, intended to echo the lush greenery surrounding the HDB block in an innovative way.
Bold industrial elements
The symmetrical bedroom features another bold interior design statement - concrete pedestals of slightly varying heights adding an unexpected industrial element beside the bed. This space exemplifies the homeowners' ability to blend vivid hues, distinctive patterns, and raw, edgy materials into a unique, harmonic composition.
