House Tour: Monochromatic palette and space-saving designs that visually enlarge this 800sqf apartment

Without tearing down a single wall during the seven-week renovation, designers Elden Lim and Syed Agil of White Space Living enhanced the flow of space in this 780sqf three-room HDB flat in Strathmore Avenue with the help of carpentry work and visual trickery.
To elongate the living room, a large swing door was added next to the television feature wall to conceal the walkway that leads to the bedrooms.
Unless it is ajar, the door that divides the common area from the private spaces “vanishes” perfectly into the living room’s feature wall.
The austere colour scheme and sleek finishes transform this humble HDB unit into an elegant abode.
The entertainment room, which is mostly for console gaming, sets itself apart from the rest of the home with its cerulean velvet curtains and graphic wallpaper.
Except for the television console, there is a noticeable lack of cabinets and shelves in the living room. “Everything is in the store room!” reveals the homeowner.
A built-in surface was sufficient as a dining table as the couple often eat in front of the television.
Without deviating from the monochromatic palette, a softer feel was achieved by replacing black with grey.
When closed, the sliding toilet door merges with the drop ceiling to form a fluid design feature for the master bedroom.
