The Tan family appointed designer Victor Ting of The Carpenter's Workshop to renovate their two-storey home, which turned out to be a good move, as the firm specialises in remodelling and revamping older houses into modern spaces.

The living room shows off a spacious, breezy appeal, with plain white walls and flooring, and clean-lined furniture.

The classic hues are punctuated by a dining table and chairs in a darker shade of wood, ladder-style display shelf and trio of dining pendant lamps, all of which distinguish the space.

Building the 12m by 3m pool initially posed some problems, as there were several inspection chambers for the underground sewers that were located at the side of the home - these had to be moved to accommodate the pool.

The staircase's classic architectural form is played up with strong wood tones against white walls.

As the ladies of the house enjoy painting, Victor fashioned an airy loft space for painting and storing art materials, and a comfy lounge area where the family and guests can hang out.

Open shelves and closed cabinets cover one wall in the study, offering a variety of storage.
