Are you a fan of Marie Antoinette, Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film starring the elusive Kirsten Dunst? The period piece showcased opulence and an over-the-top charm that will make anyone feel pampered, what with the lush bedspreads, printed wallpaper, and heavy chandeliers. However, you can experience this for yourself and not just through Hollywood. This 4-storey European-inspired interior design home shows you how.

High ceiling with crystal chandelier

Stepping through the ornate double doors, you’re immediately struck by the grandeur of the entryway. High ceilings adorned with intricate crown molding give a sense of regal elegance, while the gleaming marble floors and gilded accents catch the light, creating an atmosphere of luxurious sophistication. A magnificent crystal chandelier hangs overhead, casting a warm glow and hinting at the opulent design that permeates the rest of the home.

Blessed with high ceilings and large windows, this family’s Victorian-inspired living room dons a cream and blush theme. The metallic sheen of its curtains, large leather sofas, and gold-lined consoles oozes luxury. Tying the theme together is an intricate dome, where the chandelier hangs from. “A ceiling dome is a must for a classic, Victorian-inspired design home,” says interior designer Romie, from The Cottage Crafts. “It adds an architectural element that immediately evokes a sense of timeless elegance.”

European-inspired study room

Continuing with the European-inspired interior design decor, the homeowner takes on a masculine vibe in the study. Dark wooden French bookshelves line the walls, creating a cozy, library-like atmosphere. A matching study table sits at the center of the room, its sleek lines and rich, mahogany finish lending an air of sophistication.

Victorian-style luxurious bedroom

The interior design team at The Cottage Crafts built around the majestic bed in the master suite - enveloped in velvet upholstery - and installed custom wall panels as well as furniture in black and gold. The boxed walls also add an interesting texture and depth into the room, further enhancing the European-inspired design aesthetic. The result is a sumptuous, cocoon-like space that exudes opulence and elegance.

Black and gold walk-in wardrobe

The same black and gold fittings are extended into the walk-in wardrobe, which was - in its original form - quite an awkward layout. Interior designer Romie took advantage of that, and crafted out this wardrobe space along the slanted wall, maintaining the overall European-inspired design vision. Ample built-in shelving and hanging rods ensure the space is both functional and visually appealing, with the dark wood and metallic accents continuing the refined, sophisticated look.

Simple bathroom with gold fittings

Despite the glamorous living room and bedroom, the toilet is kept relatively simple in design. However, there are still a few worthy highlights - such as the gold-coloured decorative tap, gold accessories, and marble countertop, tying in the opulent European-inspired design elements throughout the home. The clean, classic lines of the vanity and fixtures provide a serene contrast to the more ornate spaces, creating a well-balanced and cohesive design.

Intricate details makes luxury

Throughout the home, the attention to detail is evident in every corner. From the intricate crown molding and ornate light fixtures to the carefully curated furniture and accessories, every element has been thoughtfully selected to create a harmonious, European-inspired aesthetic. The result is a truly magnificent, four-storey home that transports you to a world of luxury and opulence, much like the grandeur of Marie Antoinette’s court.
