Home Tour: Bold colours in this Scandinavian style apartment in Kuala Lumpur
Colourful yet Scandinavian? Yes, says this 2017 home.
Vibrant hues and Scandinavian flair define this eye-catching 980 sq ft Kuala Lumpur apartment, elegantly tailored for a young couple desiring a vivacious yet personality-filled home reflecting their lifestyle. The Scandinavian-inspired Kuala Lumpur apartment showcases interior designers Pauline and Priscilla Ng's (Paul+Pris) deft hand at melding bold colors with restraint.
To imbue the living room with a vibrant atmosphere, the feature wall is painted a striking blue tone that complements the neutral-toned furnishings.
Colourful Kuala Lumpur apartment
There’s an eye-catching interplay of geometric shapes in the living room, which showcases creative flair without going overboard with details.
Scandi-inspiring dining area
In the dining area, custom-made wall-shelves featuring an interesting mix of decorative accessories add a fashionable touch to the overall space.
Pink accent kitchen
In the Scandi-inspired kitchen, the walls are clad entirely in white tiles. The sleek white countertop further adds to the polished look of the space. As a way to brighten things up without being too loud, the designers painted the ceiling as well as the tile grouts in pink, giving the cooking space a wow factor.
“With an all-white, glossy kitchen, there’s a risk of it looking stark and clinical. However, we didn’t want to put too many colours in a small cookspace, so we applied just enough pink to spruce up the space,” say the designers. “As one of the owners loves cooking and adores the colour pink, this was the perfect place to infuse this feminine colour.”
Soft colour tones in bedroom
The colourful approach continues in the master bedroom, but only tranquil shades were used. Here, woody tones and soft textures work together harmoniously, conjuring an atmosphere of serenity.
The bedroom is kept simple yet stylish via the use of an open wardrobe system that comes with cabinets painted in grey.
Multi functional guest room
The guest room, which doubles as a home office, features a built-in wardrobe with mirror panels for a more spacious feeling.
Cosy reading nook
An armchair by the corner window turns the small area into a cosy reading nook, exemplifying the intelligent use of space throughout this compact Kuala Lumpur apartment.
All white master bathroom
For the master bathroom, an all-white approach is employed, keeping things minimal yet modern.
Blue apartment interiors
To create visual continuity with the striking blue hues in the living room, a blue headboard is also used in the bedroom; however, it takes on a subtler tone.
Throughout, the Scandi-inspired Kuala Lumpur apartment celebrates vibrancy and personality via judicious colour choices accented by restrained design elements - an energetic yet balanced living space.
