A thoughtful renovation in 2017 transforms a standard Punggol 5-room HDB flat into an elegant preppy sanctuary, with dual wet and dry kitchens.

In the vibrant neighborhood of Punggol, a 1,205 sq ft 5-room HDB flat has been transformed into a sophisticated haven that perfectly balances preppy style HDB aesthetics with practical living solutions.
Under the expert guidance of interior designer Arjan Twilhaar from Aiden T, this home showcases how thoughtful design can create spaces that are both stylish and highly functional, particularly evident in its innovative wet and dry kitchen setup.
HDB with wet and dry kitchens
The heart of this preppy style HDB home lies in its dual-kitchen concept, a feature that demonstrates how modern HDB living can accommodate more elaborate cooking and entertaining spaces.
Arjan masterfully separated the wet and dry kitchens using elegant sliding glass doors, creating distinct zones while maintaining visual continuity. Both kitchen spaces boast their own sinks, with the refrigerator thoughtfully positioned in the dry kitchen for convenient access during daily meal preparation and entertaining.
Jade Green Formica carpentry
The kitchen’s personality shines through in its distinctive jade green Formica laminate cabinetry, featuring classic wainscoting details that add architectural interest while maintaining the home’s preppy aesthetic. This bold choice of color brings life to the kitchen while staying true to the overall design theme.
HDB service yard door removed
To create a more spacious wet kitchen, Arjan made the bold decision to remove the door to the kitchen yard. This transformation opened up the space significantly, making it more conducive for serious cooking sessions.
Half partition kitchen wall
The renovation went a step further by partially removing the upper section of the wall between the kitchen and dining room, creating an airy flow that connects these essential living spaces.
Wooden framed glass doors
The living room underwent its own clever transformation to accommodate a dedicated study space. By introducing a new wall with wooden-framed glass doors, Arjan created a private work area that maintains the home’s bright, open feel.
This thoughtful addition to the preppy style HDB demonstrates how modern homes can adapt to accommodate both work and leisure needs.
Neutral wall paint
While preppy design typically embraces bold colors, Arjan took a more sophisticated approach for this home. The designer opted for a palette of soothing neutral hues that create a timeless backdrop for daily living.
The living room’s accent wall, adorned with a subtle blue geometric wallpaper, adds visual interest without overwhelming the space.
HDB with wainscoting details
The master bedroom continues the home’s refined aesthetic with its own geometric wallpaper and wainscoted carpentry details, creating a cohesive design thread that runs throughout the preppy style HDB. These architectural details add character while maintaining the serene atmosphere essential for a restful bedroom.
Blue accent bathroom colour
In the common bathroom, a strategic pop of blue injects energy into the space while maintaining the home’s overall design coherence. This thoughtful touch shows how even utilitarian spaces can contribute to the home’s preppy narrative.
Preppy children’s room
The children’s room exemplifies how the concept of practical luxury extends throughout the home. Tall white wardrobes maximize storage while maintaining an open feel, complemented by sheer day curtains that allow natural light to flood the space.
Every element in this home, from the innovative dual kitchen setup to the strategic use of color and pattern, works together to create a space that’s both stylish and supremely livable.
