If you’ve never seen poetry in architecture, this is how it looks. This stunning landed house in Sunset Way by a private family was built by local firm WOW Architects, establishing itself as one of Singapore’s most remarkable luxury homes of recent years.
Sunset Way Landed House
Presented with a large rectangular piece of land, the homeowner wanted the architects to create the look of a house within a lush garden, and at the same time invite some of the outdoors into the living spaces. This vision aligns perfectly with Singapore’s luxury property trends, where the integration of nature has become increasingly paramount for discerning homeowners seeking both exclusivity and environmental harmony.
Luxury home architecture
With the brief provided, the architects wanted to take the concept a step further by creating a subtle design language that captivates through the use of bold textures and silhouettes. Their approach demonstrates the sophisticated aesthetic that has come to define luxury homes in Singapore, where every detail is carefully considered to create a cohesive narrative throughout the space.
Wood formed concrete wall
Wood-formed concrete was used on the walls, adopting a grainy texture that complements the natural wood floors. This thoughtful material selection, characteristic of high-end Singapore luxury property developments, creates a tactile experience that elevates the everyday living environment.
In merging the outdoors and indoors, walls were removed from several areas of the home so that the living room leads seamlessly onto the pool and water feature. This borderless design approach has become a hallmark of luxury homes in Singapore, where the tropical climate allows for such architectural innovations that blur the lines between interior and exterior spaces.
Luxury interior design
There is an overarching sense of peace and tranquility within the interior spaces, achieved through the use of natural materials in oversized proportions. The light shades and neutral tones evoke an almost meditative mood throughout. This considered approach to materiality and scale exemplifies the new definition of luxury home Singapore style, where understated elegance trumps ostentatious display.
Glass ceiling panels
The architects incorporated narrow strips of glass panels surrounding the ceiling of the living room to let in natural light during the day. The play of light streaming into the space is breathtaking and inviting at the same time.
Japanese-style wooden screen partitions
Japanese-style wooden screens partition the spaces to direct the flow within the room, adding an element of Eastern influence that has become increasingly popular in Singapore luxury property design.
Natural granite stone
Large slabs of naturally-finished granite surround an alcove at the corner of the stairway, reminiscent of the alcove spaces commonly seen in traditional Japanese dwellings. This cultural fusion showcases the cosmopolitan nature of contemporary luxury homes in Singapore, where global design influences are thoughtfully incorporated into local contexts.
Concrete beams
Concrete beams, left unvarnished and accented by the uplights, look like impressive monoliths as they line the stairs. The raw beauty of these architectural elements speaks to a growing appreciation for authentic materials in luxury property design.
Open bathroom design
The same openness can be seen in the bath areas, where sections of it has been turned into an indoor garden, allowing the greenery and sounds of nature to flood the bathing spaces. This innovative approach to bathroom design sets new standards for private homes in Singapore, where everyday spaces are transformed into experiential environments.
Glass panels
In line with the quiet and serene nature of the design, the use of glass shelving and a round mirror helps to keep the room uncluttered and alluring. These minimalist touches reflect a sophisticated understanding of luxury that prioritizes space and simplicity over excess.
Freestanding basin
Captivating details, such as a freestanding basin rising from the midst of a water feature, turn the bathroom into an utterly pampering sanctuary.
Outdoor water feature
All around the home, water features abound, filling the property with a soothing sound of trickling water.
Bedroom water feature
Even in the other bedrooms, the sleeping area leads directly onto a pond instead of the usual balcony.
Glass Facade
By night, the glass-clad façade of the home turns the building into a minimalist-style lantern, lighting up the neighbourhood. The transformative nature of the architecture creates an ever-changing canvas that epitomizes modern luxury home Singapore design.
Luxury properties in Singapore
A house that is as much a form of architectural meditation as it is poetry, WOW Architects have created a home that is memorable and spellbinding, to say the least.
