The owner of this 1,486sqf two-bedroom penthouse apartment in Novena asked Jonathan Er of interiors firm Distinct Identity to maximise the double-height ceiling of the living and dining area, and create a loft-inspired atmosphere.
Er opened up the small kitchen, replacing a wall with metal bi-fold doors. The stock standard sink-and-kitchen worktop was substituted with a compact kitchen unit and an all-in-one oven and hob. Wall- and ceiling-hung storage options keep the small kitchen neat and organised.
Er also opened up the common bathroom by replacing one wall with glass partitions. Sharp black frames “pop” from the white walls to play up the all-white common bathroom and the kitchen.
With only the two of them, the couple who own this 1,776sqf five-room, multi-generational flat in Bishan could convert their spacious home into the one of their dreams.
With the help of architects Gwen Tan and Berlin Lee of design firm Formwerkz, they helped to fulfil the homeowners’ dream of an open-concept kitchen with an island and a dining table for up to 14 guests.
Built-in seating does away the need for a sofa. A leather armchair from A Thousand Tales turns the space into a conversation corner.
Customised hurrican lamp-inspired lighting and a suspended wire mesh planter box become the dining table's centrepiece.
