The swim instructor owner of this 441sqf two-room condominium apartment in West Coast told her interior designer Lawrence Puah, of Akihaus Design Studio, that she wanted a casual yet chic home that matched her personality. And delivered the look he did. The bachelorette now lives in an apartment that exudes a chic hotel-room atmosphere, queen-sized bed and even enough storage space for her bulky sports gear.

Rather than a pure white hue, Lawrence chose a light timber laminate from EDL to add texture to the living room. The full-height. built-in television console also conceals storage space.

To reduce clutter, the designer suggested using a foldable dining table and chairs, which can be kept in the hidden storage space. Large, monochromatic photographs of a humpback whale and penguins, taken during the owner's travels, add a personal touch to the home.

The homeowner customised this blue linen sofa from Courts by adding white piping, a removable back cushion, and buttons. Vases, from Homes To Life, and flowers form Charlotte Puxley.

Colours were added through accessories, such as the black-copper lamp from Ikea. Kate's snowboard juxtaposes nicely with the home's sophisticated look.

No changes were made to the galley kitchen, as well as the marble and oak flooring, as they match the homeowner's intended look.

The wife likes the Scandinavian aesthetic; the husband, industrial. So they imagined that their 1,216sqf BTO flat in Punggol would have a look that combined those two trends. However, their interior designer, Lawrence of Akihaus, had different plans. Balancing between pleasing his clients and opting for a less trendy look, Lawrence extracted the exact elements of each look that the couple liked and designed the home according to these specific preferences, rather than the whole aesthetic.

The living room features a predominantly white palette. Built-in cabinets designed like a feature wall run the entire length of the living room to provide storage space that the homeowners needed. The original floor tiles were replaced with marble-look tiles, honed to produce a matte finish.

The kitchen is the husband's domain as he enjoys cooking. In contrast to the living room's white palette, the main colour in the kitchen is black to create a more masculine look, complemented by white Caesarstone countertops.

The wardrobe doors of the bedroom have the same rectangular frame motif as the living room and the kitchen carpentry.

The vanity counter in the master bedroom uses a similar inlay motif as the rest of the house, but it is executed in stainless steel instead of brass.
