When the couple were looking for inspiration for their 1,200sqf five-room HDB flat in Punggol, they realised that the style that appealed to them most was the New York-loft look. Browsing at the homes by different interior designers, they were impressed enough by Kelvin Teo from Space Sense Studio to engage him for their home renovation.
Kelvin customised storage units that look like a series of boxes in the living space; the homeowners wanted wire mesh for the cabinet doors.
This metal floor lamp with a wire mesh shade is one of the many furniture pieces that they bought from overseas to decorate their home.
Cool charcoal tones, combined with metallic features, create a space that has a full-on industrial feel.
The custom-made dining table with built-in swing stools ties together the industrial look that is part edgy cafe and part New York-loft style.
The key elements of the home – raw and rustic wood and metal textures – extend to the design of the kitchen.
Renovation took six months and cost $55,000.
This couple approached interior designer Dan Wu of Dan’s Workshop because they knew he was an expert on the particular look that they were gunning for – the industrial-rustic aesthetic. They also had two additional requests in the renovation of their 769sqf two-bedroom condominium in Tampines – one was to use craftstone, the other to rework their small space to accommodate guests.
Accessories the couple purchased on their travels sit side by side with trinkets Dan gave them to dress up their home.
