When they first moved into this 3,700 sqf, five-bedroom condominium apartment near Orchard Road, the expatriate family from Norway initially had misgivings about its size, which was comparatively smaller than their previous landed home. However, in the expert hands of designer William Chan of Spacedge, the wife was able to realize her long harboured dream of living in a New York-style loft with minimalist styling and clean, open spaces.
In the living area, laid-back pieces in white and tan, including Arne Jacobsen’s Egg Chair, provide ample seating. Paintings are not hung, but leant against the home’s white walls.
The wife loves furnishings that are visually light, such as the see-through Bubble Chair by Eero Aarnio that beckons guests to the television zone.
Customised wall storage units here and throughout the apartment are concealed by doors wrapped with a polyurethane finishing to minimise joint lines for a cleaner look.
A dash of quirkiness and a touch of colour through the furnishings and artwork make the white-washed master bedroom even more inviting.
This family too, had to downsize from a larger home to this 1,485 sqf, two-bedroom loft apartment in Bukit Timah, but like the earlier family, the move turned out to be a happy one.
Interior designers Jacky Low and Carol Sim of Frame Interior helped the owners to flesh out their favoured aesthetics throughout the home, which is a modern, clean-cut look peppered with understated designer pieces.
The front door opens to the simple, all-white galley kitchen, and a striking arrangement of various-sized photo frames hung on a double-height white wall invites guests in.
Complementing the black frames are a clean-lined black sofa by contemporary Spanish brand Sancal, black marble dining table from Finnish designer Eero Saarinen's mid-20th-century Tulip range from Knoll, and black-and-white cowhide rug from Dream Interiors.
Jacky brought out the spiral staircase by matching the new floor to its honey-hued wooden steps.
Even the children's activity room is all about sleek-chic. Plastic and child-friendly, it features funky collectibles like Finnish designer Eero Aarnio's Trioli rocker and Spanish designer Javier Mariscal's Julian chair from the Me Too line by Italian brand Magis.
The master bedroom has a soothing white and brown palette, livened up with a touch of green from the duvet cover from Friven & Co.
