Kitchen Tour: A tranquil, open-concept kitchen with lots of wood, stone, and sunlight
By Home & Decor Team -
What does an urban sanctuary look like to you? Lots of wood, white and sunlight -- according to Silestone Trendsetter Theresa Casey, who designed this loft kitchen in collaboration with Cosentino, Kohler and Benjamin Moore Paints. Given a kitchen with an open plan and large windows, Theresa conceptualised a space that has both traditional and modern influences, and one that connects with nature. Here are some tips from Theresa, for you to get a similar look!
Tip #1: Bring in handmade elements, as it enlivens a space. Here, Theresa chose hanging pendants to bring texture and interest to the space. They also perfectly frame the island and the floating shelves.
Tip #2: Choose the right colour for the mood you want. Theresa started her concept with the Silestone Pear Jasmine. "Its freshness really contributes to the tranquil nature of the space," she says.
The kitchen features an archway, which Theresa cladded with Silestone's Marquina (take a better look at the next picture) -- a black-hued stone that "adds a hit of graphicness to the archway between the two spaces, making the transition particularly engaging."
Tip #3: Add art to your spaces. "Art is always a reflection of the owners and brings “them” into the space. In this case the art is made by them as well as collected and inherited. I think it is very important to have objects that surround you that have meaning, connect you to where you come from and have meaning for you today," says Theresa.
Tip #4: Don't just choose colours and materials you like, but those that complement each other well. "While the Marquina archway creates a tonal contrast within the space, the Pearl Jasmine countertop here complements the Calacatta Gold (white marble) on the back wall with more subtlety and nuance," she says.
