This 2-bedroom apartment is located in a lush neighbourhood in Mumbai’s central suburb near the old Parsi colony. It is home to a couple in their 60s and their daughter, son-in-law and grandchild. The clients’ brief to the co-founders of boutique interior design firm Quirk Studio, Disha Bhavsar and Shivani Ajmera, was to create a contemporary home with hints of the English countryside.

Despite using only a handful of materials, the space is bathed with intricate details that define its experience, keeping it far from being mundane,” Shivani adds. This corridor is defined by two arches that reflect a modern interpretation of a neoclassical element, which forms a sort of threshold that leads the way from the shared spaces within the apartment to the private bedrooms.

The spacious living room is subdivided into two zones - formal and informal. This presented a certain degree of challenge to the interior designers.
“The layout of the living area had to balance the distinct spaces while still being cohesive and without compromising the overall flow within the living area,” says Disha.
