The Brief
For designer Loren Ng, every project begins not with a floor plan, but with feeling. Guided by her “Purpose-built; Soul-led” philosophy, she begins each collaboration with a mood questionnaire created by a psychotherapist—a cornerstone of her psychology-led approach that uncovers how clients wish to live and feel.
“The tool uncovers not only what clients consciously express but also the subconscious cues that influence how they want to feel in their home,” Loren explains. In this case, the homeowner’s responses revealed a desire for calm, privacy, and softness, but also subtle layers of adaptability and understated elegance. These insights helped shape the renovation from structure to surface, aligning form, space, and rhythm to evoke emotional ease.

Flow and Function
The apartment’s former layout was fragmented by awkward corridors and uneven ceiling heights. Loren and her team reworked the plan to open sightlines and unify ceiling levels, creating a seamless progression of spaces that feels effortless and cohesive. Soft neutrals—beige, eggshell, and sand—ground the palette, lifted by accents of sage and powder blue.
In the kitchen, a duet of cool green and warm vanilla cabinetry achieves what Loren calls a “harmonious and striking” contrast. A movable island anchors the space, sliding and extending as needed for work, dining, or entertaining. Loren recalls the homeowner’s delight on seeing it, noting how “it became more than just a technical solution—it sparked fresh ideas, and she was excited to enjoy it.”
Arches feature throughout as quiet, architectural moments that lend rhythm and grace. “Arches are also said to bring serenity to a space, standing tall like grand protectors,” Loren shares. The gesture softens transitions and enhances the home’s sense of openness and calm.

Crafted for Comfort
A seasoned traveller with a deep admiration for Italian design, the homeowner envisioned a sanctuary that could draw her in to unwind and leave the world behind. “She wanted a chic but laid-back and practical home where her whole day can fade away easily and effortlessly,” Loren says. These influences—travel, tranquillity, and multifunctionality—became the foundation of the design.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the master suite, where light blue walls evoke the Mediterranean Sea and arched forms add a sense of protection and poise. The custom headboard, inspired by medieval Italian shutter doors, conceals storage behind its padded front and is one of Loren’s proudest details. The gentle step-up floor leading to the bed subtly marks the transition from activity to rest, creating a ritual of rejuvenation.

Beauty with Purpose
In the bathrooms, bold emerald and sapphire tones infuse vibrancy into the home’s serene palette. Porcelain tiles featuring green marble and blue agate patterns, accented by bronze veining, introduce what Loren calls “a touch of modern luxury.” Yet practicality remains central: “We used large-format tiles to minimise grout lines and reduce long-term maintenance,” she notes.
Loren’s eye for refinement extends to the finer details. In the master bathroom, a concealed medicine cabinet keeps surfaces clean and serene—one of many considered touches layered into the home’s most intimate spaces. Together, these elements reflect her belief that beauty, comfort, and practicality should meet exactly where they matter most.
