HDB home cafés in Singapore refer to private residences—usually HDB flats—that have been creatively transformed into small, often themed, cafés run by hobbyists or passionate home cooks. These aren’t official businesses per se (as URA and HDB regulations prohibit commercial F&B operations from residential units), but many operate semi-privately, often by invitation, appointment, or as private dining experiences.
The idea of home-based eateries in Singapore isn’t entirely new. Home-based food businesses (HBBs) like bakers and caterers have been around for decades. However, the home café concept—where the home is deliberately styled like a café and offers curated dine-in experiences—started gaining traction more noticeably in the late 2010s.
It was influenced by the rise of third-wave coffee culture, with enthusiasts bringing café-level brews to their living rooms - and most recently in 2025, a boom in Japanese matcha popularity. Here are 8 popular home cafes in Singapore right now!
Mr Mark Chu, 35, who is the founder of home cafe Chuffee House and works in the social media industry, poses for a picture in his 5-room HDB in Tampines.
Chuffee House (Tampines)
Address: 523C Tampines Central 7 (pre-order at take.app/chuffeehouse)
Passionate about all things coffee, Mr Mark Chu, 35, who works in the social media industry, had a built-in bar counter set up for his Bezzera BZ10 espresso machine in his open-concept kitchen when he first moved into his 5-room HDB in Tampines with his wife over 4 years ago.
The home-based takeaway coffee business, Chuffee House, was initiated in May 2025 as an extension project of Naebizuka Coffee, a home-roasted coffee business, which he has been operating since 2022. To deepen his understanding of coffee, Mr Chu took up sensory and roasting courses offered by The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).
He invested over $10,000 on his entire coffee setup, which includes a $7,500 coffee roaster for his home-roasted coffee beans business, as well as a coffee cart purchased from IKEA to store supplies like straws and cups. Starting a cafe has always been a dream and the opening of Chuffee House offers a creative outlet for a hands-on person like himself.
Mr Chu is the sole barista and operates Chuffee House on weekends with the support of his wife and retired parents. His best sellers include the Shoyu White (from $5.50) and Yuzuka ($6), while a bag of 200g in-house roasted coffee beans retails from $18.90. Customers are open to sitting around the bar counter for a chat while waiting for their drinks to be ready.

Their tagline reads “every sip captures the warmth of a mother’s embrace.”
The home cafe centres around speciality nitro cold brews, with flavours like Sakura Nitro Cold Brew and Dirty Matcha Nitro, served in refillable pouches — a nod to a modern, eco-conscious twist.
Orders are taken via Keopi Madre’s website (link in their Instagram). The cafe is on hiatus until 12 June 2025.

Address: 408 Yishun Ave 6 (Unit number revealed only after order confirmation)
Soop Soop Coffee is one of Singapore’s charming home-based HDB cafés, tucked within a Yishun corridor—an intimate, ‘kampung’-style setup brewing specialty coffees right outside an HDB unit. It’s founded by Mr Alvin Lee, 33. The 4-room HDB flat in Yishun where Soop Soop Coffee operates belongs to Lee’s mother.
Soop Soop Coffee was popular for its open‑air setup where you order and chill right there, capturing a unique “HDB café” atmosphere popular on TikTok . However, the founder notes on Instagram that the outdoor seating area has since been removed for compliance with the authorities. Soop Soop Coffee is now a takeaway-only home cafe. Ms Grace Teo runs home cafe Brew With Grace, where guests can chill out with her cat, Totoro.

Address: 171B Sengkang East Drive (Unit number provided after order)
Brew With Grace is run by Ms Grace Teo, 36, from her 5-room Build-To-Order (BTO) flat in Sengkang, which she shares with her husband, a software engineer. Formerly a barista at Monday Coffee Bar, Ms Teo launched her own home café in December 2024.
The HDB flat was designed to evoke the charm of a countryside cottage. Gentle Studio Ghibli soundtracks play in the background while serene pastoral scenes are projected onto the walls. A British Shorthair cat named Totoro dozes contentedly on the sofa, completing the tranquil atmosphere.

Ceremonial-Grade Matcha
Ms Teo imports ceremonial-grade matcha from Marukyu Koyamaen in Kyoto, often paying over $80 for just 100 grams—a premium product that is frequently out of stock. Despite making only a few cents per drink, she continues with quiet determination.
Her menu remains deliberately modest, offering just five beverages, and she opens from Wednesday to Friday to maintain a manageable routine. Her home café features a Lelit Bianca espresso machine, which cost around $3,000 and was one of her first major purchases upon moving in.
Prices start at $3 for a black coffee, while her most popular drinks—Strawberry Matcha Oat and Yuzu Matcha Oat—are priced at $5.50 each. Both are made using oat milk and ceremonial-grade matcha.
