If you missed Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s National Day Rally speech on Aug 17, 2025, one of the main highlights was the North redevelopment, namely Kranji, Sembawang Shipyard, and Woodlands. Here are the updates for the residential estates at the Kranji Racecourse redevelopment:
The very first homes in the new housing estate at the old racecourse in Kranji should be ready in about a decade.
According to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, this new estate will combine urban living with nature. He noted that his previous speeches had already covered plans for the west, east, and central regions of Singapore.
The Turf Club held it's last race at the Kranji Racecourse in October 2024.
Turf Club Closure
The Singapore Turf Club held its final race at the Kranji racecourse on 5 October 2024. The club will be returning the 130 hectares site to the government by March 2027 for new developments. PM Wong also mentioned that they’ll be improving the transport links in the Kranji area, with plans for a new Sungei Kadut MRT Station opening in 2035 that will connect the North-South and Downtown lines.
They’re planning to build around 14,000 new homes, which will be tucked away amongst plenty of green spaces. These new houses will also be supported by new facilities, like a neighbourhood centre near the Kranji MRT station.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) had previously said that both public and private homes will be built at the Kranji site.
