Live in these houses to increase the chances of having your child enrolled into the well-known primary school
By Ho Guo Xiong -
Nanyang Primary School was started in 1917 by Tan Chu Nan and Teo Eng Hock. It served as the primary section of Nanyang Girls' High School (which it is still affiliated with) and was located in a shophouse at Dhoby Ghaut. Fast forward over a hundred years later, the campus currently resides in district 10 along King's Road in Bukit Timah where it has been since 2004.
Fun fact: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and singer Stefanie Sun studied at Nanyang Primary School. Actress Zoe Tay and investment banker Jim Rogers were reported to have volunteered their time to get their children enrolled into the school. Much of the reputation of Nanyang Primary School could thus perhaps be linked to these reputed names either graduating from the school or looking to get their children enrolled.
Nanyang Primary School Parent Volunteer
There are several ways to get into the school. A parent could either be an alumni of the school or participate in the Parent Volunteer program, which, by the way, might not even ensure your kid's entry. The balloting history of the primary one registration consequently receives a lot of attention as parents pray that their children become one of the lucky few who get a coveted spot. There's a Nanyang Primary School Waiting List form too.
How to get into Nanyang Primary School?
One of the best ways to increase the chances of enrolling into Nanyang Primary School (or any primary school for that matter) is to live in proximity to the school. Living within a kilometer radius of the school has the highest chances and gradually decreases as you live further. That is a reason why many parents shift houses in order to move closer to their desired primary schools for their children.

Nanyang Primary School Flu
In January 2023, Nanyang Primary School made headlines after 53 students and two staff fell ill with acute respiratory symptoms ranging from fever and cough to sore throat and runny nose. Two pupils had to be hospitalised and were later discharged. None of them tested positive for Covid-19 but some were found to be down with influenza.
Some classes were consequently put on home-based learning while physical morning assemblies and group activities were halted and reduced respectively. The school also said that they took measures to clean and disinfect classrooms and common areas while teachers reminded pupils to practice proper hygiene.
