It may be difficult keeping cool in Singapore's hot climate, but when it comes to keeping clean, many want a hot shower or bath! This is where water heaters come in.
But before you head out to buy just any one, make sure you know all the basics about water heaters and what sort to get, so you don't end up with the wrong one.
DON'T RUN OUT OF HOT WATER!
Estimate your usage for storage water heaters, to get the right size. Determine if your family is "high demand" or "low demand" for hot water usage. If you’re a "high demand" family, consider moving up to the next level on the sizing chart.
Low demand:
- No back-to-back showers
- No bathtubs
- Regular shower fittings
High demand:
- Back-to-back or concurrent showers
- Bathtubs
- High flow-rate showers (rain showers and waterfall showers)
Sizing chart:
Kitchen only: 15 litres
One person: 15-30 litres
Two people: 30-40 litres
Three people: 40-50 litres
Four or more people: 80+ litres

Tips:
- Look out for storage water heater models that have heavily insulated tanks, which can significantly reduce standby heat loss, lowering its energy consumption and saving you money.
- Instant water heaters are best used as a single-point water heater. For multiple points (for example, two users in separate bathrooms), the hot water supply — which already has a restricted flow rate — is split, and that means lower water pressure and inconsistent temperature.
