Transform your living space into a clutter-free sanctuary with Muji Renovation’s one-stop shop service
By Home & Decor Singapore -
Like a crisp white shirt or a classic Beatles song, the minimalist Japanese aesthetic is one that will never go out of style. After all, with space coming at a premium in land-scarce Singapore, simple, clutter-free living is often the preferred way to go.
But even though many interior design firms offer Japanese or “Muji-inspired” designs, nothing beats going to the original for the real deal, now that Muji offers its own home renovation service.

Launched in November 2023 at the newly reopened Plaza Singapura store, Muji Renovation aims to help customers transform their homes into dream spaces through a one-stop shop. This means no more dealing with multiple parties for design, furnishings and electrical needs. Instead, Muji will oversee the entire renovation project and make the process as seamless and stress-free as possible.
Comfort in simplicity
From its start in 1980, Muji has been an advocate for sustainability, long before it became a buzzword in today’s vocabulary. This philosophy extends beyond using simple packaging and eco-friendly materials to eliminating waste in all its processes.
When it comes to home renovations, this is demonstrated in minimalist design for practical daily living and doing away with excessive carpentry work. Naturally, this translates into lower renovation costs overall.

Customers familiar with Muji’s no-frills philosophy will know the brand’s design aesthetic is both simple, straightforward yet functional. Homeowners can expect its consultation service to include efficient space design, with options to enlarge or divide a space; along with storage planning, where clutter can be kept in nifty nooks for easy maintenance and a tidy look.

Thanks to its modular concept, Muji’s designs also encourage flexibility. One of the ways it proposes this is through using a kotenjo or small ceiling design, which adapts to the layout of beams and columns in the room, offering the option to incorporate lighting, install sliding doors, curtains and demarcate spaces.

Instead of built-in furniture, Muji also advises using a modular furniture system that can be adjusted for various purposes, enabling homeowners to create new spaces within the home as families grow or needs change. This also helps keep costs low as furniture can simply be repurposed or moved around.

A step-by-step guide to Muji’s home renovation services

- After going into planning details and discussing your budget, an on-site survey will be scheduled, as well as a follow-up review, estimated quotation and expected completion date.
- Once you confirm your chosen proposal and the implementation of the project, you will receive a configuration proposal with precise measurements. A 3D model will then be created when the layout plan and materials have been confirmed.
- After confirming the design plan, the Muji interior designer will guide you through the entire renovation process and confirm the requirements for fixtures, appliances and furniture.
- Once the project is confirmed, construction work will commence, with Muji supervising the entire project till completion.
