Of all my heavy-duty appliances, my dishwasher is one thing I cannot live without. Growing up, we never had one, and the moment my husband and I bought our first home together, our dishwasher was one of our first major appliance purchases. I own a Miele, and don’t regret my choice for a second. I always believe in spending more on quality, saving you in the long run. However, we all have our preferences.
Believe it or not, the first mechanical type of dishwasher dates to the 1850s in the USA. Yet the first dishwasher with an electronic motor was in Europe circa 1929. And get this, it was invented by none other than Miele! I’ll let that sink in for a little while…
Nowadays, dishwashers have come a long way, keeping up with the times of latest technologies. Some are even powered by smartphone apps or voice controls. You’ll discover a range of dishwashers on the market, from complete LED screen functions to the traditional button type.
If it’s your first time buy, you might want to consider a more cost-effective option. Or, another type of dishwasher that’s become increasingly popular is the compact dishwasher — small enough to fit on your countertop. These are especially great for small households, whether talking perimeter space size or people. For those who swore they’d never own a dishwasher, these compact options are great test models.
A dishwasher price isn’t the cheapest, and there are multiple things to consider. I own this exact Miele dishwasher, and it’s one item in my kitchen I cannot live without. I’m a die-hard fan of the German brand. Personally, I find Miele appliances stand miles above the rest. The Miele G 5000 SC Active is on the higher end of the cost spectrum, but I have had mine for over five years, and it’s still going strong. My favourite part about the Miele dishwasher is the various compartments. It comes with three “levels.” I stack my dishes and glassware on the bottom. The middle tray I use for all my glasses, mugs, cups, small ramekins, etc. Its left-hand side “spikes” are perfect for holding wine glasses or any other precious glassware. The third rack slides in at the top and is for cutlery. It even has a little compartment for chopsticks or specialty knives.

It’s 84,5cm (h) x 59,8cm (w) x 60cm (d), and doesn’t appear overbearingly large for apartment-type homes.
Enjoy eight washing settings, including pre-wash, eco, rapid 29’/45’, auto, hygiene+, boost, glass, and rinse. Other programs include intensive and single-basket washing. There’s also a half-load option. On the LED screen, it shows a salt light indicator, rinse aid light, end of cycle, digital countdown, and the various programmes. Even though camping isn’t the most popular outdoor activity in SG, it’s still doable (and a great experience for the little ones) at places like Pasir Ris Park and East Coast Park. My husband’s family loves to camp, so trust me when I say I am a mega fan of a portable dishwasher!
Or perhaps you’re making a huge family meal at your in-laws, who don’t own a dishwasher? This portable Toshiba dishwasher is perfect to bring along. It’s great for a single household, too. In just 29 minutes, have your dinnerware, cutlery and glassware clean and good as new. Plus, not just limited to dishes, you can also wash your fruit and vegetables in it!
Is it your first time purchasing any sort of dishwasher? This one could turn out to be a good tester option as it’s well-priced. No breaking the bank either. For anyone who’s not the most tech/appliance savvy, there’s no installation required either, and the setup is truly hassle-free. The only thing you need to do is fill up its water tank (built in the back of the dishwasher), which beeps to let you know it’s full. It does have a water-inlet option, though, if you’d prefer to install it into the wall.

Considering the best dishwasher Singapore brands, the Elba is one of the most water-efficient, with 4 ticks! This Elba Ebdw1481mwh 60cm dishwasher price is also a great benchmark, and I would say sits at middle range, or just below, meaning it’s an affordable option.
Hailing from Italy, it comes with a two-year warranty. The Innowash 360° Water Spray System ensures contents are extra clean.
Choose between eight wash programmes: Intensive, Eco, Normal, Auto, 90Mins, Glass, Rapid, and Soak. If you don’t have many glasses and dishes to fill the dishwasher, opt for its half-load function. Singapore’s water prices, at roughly $2.74 per cubic metre (as of recent years), mean that over time, the savings from using less water can add up.
Electricity is a factor too. Dishwashers do consume power, particularly during the heating and drying phases. However, electricity rates in Singapore, while not the lowest, are relatively stable and predictable for most HDB and condo dwellers. On the other hand, if you’re a small household or don’t wash a large number of dishes daily, a compact and affordable dishwasher may still serve your needs well. Several entry-level models available in Singapore are designed for countertop use, making them suitable for HDB flats or small kitchens. Brands like Xiaomi, EuropAce, and Toshiba offer relatively inexpensive options that have gained popularity for their convenience and decent performance at lower price points.
