It is a common core memory among us Singaporeans that our parents did laundry by hanging them onto bamboo poles before placing them outside of the house to dry. Such an occurrence would cut through economic status too, whether you lived in an HDB, condominium flat or a landed property.

While such a method of doing laundry is indeed economical, we are undoubtedly at the whims of the weather whenever it rains or during the monsoon seasons. You would also need to be physically present to carry the poles in and out of the house when the need arises, which has added risks if you're living on a high floor.

Electric clothes dryers, or automated laundry drying racks, solve all these problems with technology. As the name implies, these indoor appliances allow us to dry our clothing indoors quickly with fans and heating.

Some are even built with ionisers and ultraviolet lights that combat odour-causing microbes and allergenic dust mites too. And for those who are not home most of the day, perhaps models that can be controlled remotely would be a feature you'll enjoy.

Regardless of the brands, these electric clothes dryers are built with sturdy and lightweight metal, usually aluminium alloy, equipped with LED lights and contain motors that lift and lower the clothing poles. In the end, you're really shopping for differences in terms of brand name, how much load they can carry and additional functionalities such as ultraviolet lights and ionisers.

Steigen Solar Pro (Gen 2), $1,399

Steigen’s latest Solar Pro remains the most premium choice in Singapore. It features an upgraded “8-Core Solar Drying” system that reaches 60 degC and a proprietary Sol Ion technology which releases a blend of positive and negative ions to eliminate musty odours and dust mites.

This is good for you if you want strong airflow ($6.9$m/s), zero-blind spot drying, a durable nano-ceramic coating to prevent scratches, and if you enjoy the “sun-dried” smell of their laundry, even during the monsoon season.

This is not suitable for you if you’re not ok with its extremely high price point, and high electricity consumption when heaters are active.

The Mark 2 by Mensch is arguably the sleekest model available in 2026. At only 14cm thick when fully retracted, it is designed to “disappear” into a ceiling recess, making it a favourite for minimalist BTO interior designs.

This will suit you if you like a compact, ultra-slim profile and highly versatile horizontal bars that can be rearranged for shoes or toys, and bright 16W LED panel that replaces the need for a yard light.

However, owing to its small size, it lacks the high-intensity heat drying found in the more expensive brands.
