As someone who considers themselves a serious “foodie,” my kitchen is equipped with a few Smeg appliances.

One of the (many) reasons why I loved the Smeg appliances range is that each product perfectly matches the next in terms of style and design. All together, they look ultra sleek in your kitchen space — especially if you love entertaining and have an open dry kitchen/living room layout.

Of course, it’s not just about the look of a kitchen appliance, but more importantly, about its efficiency and longevity. This is another reason why I’m a Smeg fan. I find that the products last longer than some of my other appliances. Why is Smeg so expensive? It’s a combination of quality, lifespan, and a super trendy design. It’s worth looking out for sale days on Smeg appliances. For example, Amazon is currently hosting a Smeg Singapore sale until mid-May.

Founded in 1948, Smeg is an Italian-born and bred brand, so the price range also reflects its foundations. Smeg’s first-ever venture was a standalone cooker, before it branched out into smaller appliances circa the late 90s. With its distinctly retro design, it soon became a favorite within interior decorating and home living spaces.

Looking to amp up your appliance game? Here are the 10 best Smeg appliances according to online reviews, and some tried, tested, and personal favourites.

Smeg 50’S Retro Style Kettle, 1.7 L Capacity, $206.40

Not only does Smeg’s iconic 50s Retro Style Kettle look fabulous sitting on any kitchen counter, but it boils water quickly, too. Let’s say you fill this model to the brim (1.7 litres), it reaches full boiling point in under three minutes. It’s the perfect companion for when I want a quick cuppa in the afternoon. You’ll get seven cups out of the Smeg Retro Kettle — just above average.

The higher the wattage, the more powerful the kettle, and Smeg’s is equipped with a 3,000W output. In the kettle world, anything with 3,000 watts guarantees a rapid boil. Available in seven iconic shades (including cream, pastel green, red, white, and pastel blue), I own the light pastel green version to match the rest of my Smeg appliances. Another feature that I love is that if the kettle is empty and you turn it on without realising, it automatically turns off.

It goes beyond the average lifespan, with many consumers still enjoying their kettle after five years. It comes with a two-year warranty. Thanks to its high wattage, it requires less energy. To save more electricity, consider purchasing the Smeg Whistling Kettle (which heats up on an induction/gas stove).

Smeg 50’s Retro Style Aesthetic Toaster, $235

The Smeg Toaster is a great match for products such as the Smeg kettle. Or, its classic curved design also complements the Smeg fridge. Not overbearingly large either, I find it the perfect size. For consumers who want to splash out, one-up your toaster game appearance with Smeg’s Dolce & Gabbana, Sicily is My Love Collection

Fitting two slices of bread, Smeg toaster’s slots boast an extra-wide design, ideal for a range of differing types of bread, from sourdough to whole wheat, even waffles. I’m very particular when it comes to how “toasted” I like my bread, so I love that the Smeg toaster has not one, but six browning levels.

Other nifty features include three preset options for defrosting, reheating, and bagels. The crumb tray is removable and washable, which is a winner, and helps you prolong its lifespan in terms of maintenance. Enjoy perfectly toasted breads or bagels using your Smeg toaster for up to ten years, most averaging eight. It uses 950 watts.

Smeg 50’s Retro Style Aesthetic Toaster is priced at $235 from Amazon and Shopee.

Smeg 50’s Retro Style Fridge, $3,248

Aesthetically pleasing and so quiet you’ll forget it’s standing there, the Smeg fridge with a 270-litre capacity is a wonderful kitchen addition, especially for those after a vintage feel. Transporting you back to bygone eras in looks, its features match modern standards.

Smeg’s classic pastel blue or pastel cream are very popular colours. However, the Smeg Singapore range is also available in white, red, emerald green, taupe, black, ruby red, and a funky Union Jack print.

Looking at its specs, the freestanding fridge is 1530x601x728mm. It holds up to 244 litres of fresh foods and produce, and 26 litres of frozen goods. Designed with a single door, the freezer section is located in the top section. There are side bars in the door for eggs, milk, etc., and pull-out glass drawers at the bottom half — one of which is a Lifeplus 0°C drawer for long-term perishable food preservation.

Enjoy a multi-flow cooling system, so the fridge is always operating at an ideal temperature. It also has a manual electronic temperature control (and LED lighting).

Smeg Espresso Coffee Machine, $559.30

Coffee snobs, Smeg Singapore offers an extensive range of Smeg coffee machine types, from a drip filter coffee machine to a Botticelli Specialty to a model with an entire integrated grinder. I find that the Smeg Espresso Coffee Machine is the most convenient and user-friendly. The best coffee is Italian coffee, and Smeg is an Italian brand, so it’s a no-brainer.

I can’t live without coffee, and this version creates a perfectly delicious cappuccino, strong espresso, or latte. Another reason why I prefer this model is that it’s not overly big, and fits compactly on a counter space. Compared to other coffee machines, its quintessential curved Smeg design is very fashionable.

Designed with a steam wand, this creates a thick foam layer for your milk-heavy drinks. The removable (and washable) drip tray easily catches leftover coffee-drip residue. Its other stainless steel filters and holders can be washed, too.

For those who own pod-based coffee machines, save money by purchasing filter coffee used with this model. It goes a long way, and with this Smeg coffee machine, you feel like a professional barista. If you’d rather buy beans and grind them yourself, also consider the Smeg CGF01CRUK Coffee Grinder.

Smeg Black Stainless Steel Knife Block Set, $321.99

Those who take their cooking seriously will agree that a great knife makes all the difference. The Smeg knife set is as sleek as ever and includes every essential type of knife you need in a kitchen.

I love to cook, and one of my best features is that both the blade and handle are manufactured from German stainless steel. This contrasts beautifully against its Acacia wood knife block.

What knives come in a set? A 19cm Chef’s Knife, 18cm Santoku Knife, 8cm Vegetable Knife (your paring knife), 13cm Utility Knife, 15cm Meat Knife, and a 19cm Bread Knife.

Good to know, while the knives are dishwasher-friendly, I wouldn’t recommend it. I always keep my stainless steel knives out of the dishwasher to prolong their sharpness and avoid any rusty bits.

Smeg 60cm Classic Oven, $1,598

Designed by Italian architect Guido Canali, if you’re searching for a built-in oven that not only functions well but looks good too, the Smeg oven ticks both boxes. Also, if you have any children in the house, say goodbye to grubby paw prints thanks to its finger-proof stainless steel design.

Often people overlook the overall cleaning of an oven, like its intricate knobs. As someone who gets into the nitty-gritty when it comes to cleaning my oven, I appreciate Smeg’s turn dials, where no dirt can get trapped beneath. It’s designed with a three-panel glass door, a 60cm built-in fan, and a 70 litre net volume. With an energy A rating, it’s energy-efficient.

The Smeg oven range doesn’t offer free-standing options, nor any plain Smeg stove tops. But you can opt for a two-in-one with a Smeg freestanding cooker, including both a gas stove and oven.

Is Smeg a good brand for ovens? With a lifespan of more than 25 years, yes. Other brands typically last about 10-12 years.

Smeg SMF03CRUK Stand Mixer, 800W, Cream, $758

Smeg Stand Mixer, 800W, Cream, $758

One for the bakers; feel like a real professional using the Smeg Stand Mixer. Not just limited to baking needs, use the mixer for other sorts of food prep too. Its large 4.8-litre stainless steel bowl fits a lot, so you don’t have to prepare in batches. Anti-slip feet ensure the mixer never moves whilst in use.

As someone who also enjoys baking, there’s nothing more frustrating than stopping and starting your mixer to lap up any mixture stuck to the side. Built with a ‘Planetary action,’ this guarantees an even mixture as the large mixing arm reaches all sides of the bowl.

Other convenient features are its front port (for attaching accessories like a pasta maker, slicer, grater, or multi food grinder), and an automatic cut-out function the moment you lift the head. Boasting a good equilibrium of power and energy efficiency, the stand mixer contains an 800-watt motor. Choose between ten speeds.

If you enjoy baking but it’s not something you do very often, consider the smaller Smeg Hand Mixer.

SMEG HBF03 Hand Blender, 50’s Style, $176

Of all my Smeg appliances, the Smeg Hand Blender is one of my absolute favourites. Never have I owned a hand blender that works as well as this one. There’s no need to blitz ingredients multiple times or remove the lid to scrape excess ingredients from the rim. Instead, I usually just whizz whatever it is I need once or twice, and voila.

This ranges from making curry pastes to olive tapenade, sauces, and purees. For new moms who prefer to make their own soft baby foods over store-bought, the Hand Blender works like magic.

For me, the Smeg price for the Hand Blender is very much justified, saving me so much time and effort in the kitchen.

Enjoy four accessory parts: a 0.5-litre chopper (with a stainless steel blade), stainless steel whisk, a 1.4-litre BPA-free beaker, and the stainless steel stick blender. It includes a speed control dial, as well as a Turbo function for extra power.

Smeg Citrus Juicer, $238

Smeg Citrus Juicer, $238

If there’s one Smeg appliance you never knew you needed until you’ve got it, is the Smeg Citrus Juicer — trust me. I cannot imagine life without mine, using it to squeeze every last drop of orange, lime, lemon, or grapefruit juice from my favourite citrus.

I use lemons and limes a lot in my cooking, and I appreciate the no-mess that this Citrus Juicer leaves behind. That goes for my kitchen counter and my hands.

Easy to use, all you have to do is place the halved citrus on the top and press down. The juice pours through from an anti-drip stainless steel spout beneath, extracting every last drop of liquid.

The model is BPA-free, and both the lid and juicing bowl are manufactured from Tritan. The strainer and reamer are stainless steel. It’s powered by 70 watts.

Smeg Blender, $352

Whether it’s fruit for a smoothie, a protein shake, or ice for a frappe you’re in the mood for, the Smeg Blender is ideal for a quick meal-on-the-go, whether it’s for breakfast or the gym. With a dynamic motor of 800 watts, it crushes all sorts, from ice to nuts.

Choose between four manual speed settings, each designed for a specific function. These are smoothie, green smoothie, ice-crush, and auto-clean. These are indicated by correlating symbols on the dial. Or, choose between the six speed settings instead.

The scratch-resistant BPA-Free Tritan jug is 1.5 litres (six cups), so you can fill a lot in here. Measurement increments are shown on one side of the jug. This part of the Smeg appliance, as well as the lid, is dishwasher-safe. Its stainless steel blade is detachable. With proper cleaning and maintenance, the Blender lasts up to ten years.

Smeg BLF03CRUK Blender is priced at $374 from Amazon.
