Catherine selected this circular coffee table from Ikea’s Stockholm collection for its simple and clean design. She also likes how it complements the curves of her sofa. Designed by Ola Wihlborg, its unadulterated form, transparent glass top, the use of natural materials, and the absence of visible fittings exemplify modern Scandinavian design in its simplicity and elegance. Functionally, the upturned edge around the glass top helps to prevent items from falling off the table and the detachable glass makes cleaning a breeze.

Instead of the usual television set mounted on a feature wall, Catherine opted for a Hisense television with a tripod stand. Although this decision arose from the constraint of not having the usual wall on which to mount a television set, it has provided her with the flexibility of swiveling the television around and watching it from the living room, the dining area or the hobby room.

Catherine fell in love with this butterfly stool when senior interior designer, Johnson Ng from Happe Design Atelier brought it as a prop for a photo shoot at her home. She liked how it looked “nice and small enough” and decided to get it from LoftHome as it blends well with the interior.

When it comes to shopping for furniture, Catherine does not have a hard and fast rule: “As long as the furniture fits into the space and the environment.”

A painting of three ladies takes pride of place behind the dining table, on the wall separating the dining room from the master bedroom. Catherine acquired it in Vietnam many years ago when she had her first home and it has moved a few times with her. “The three ladies have seen all my houses,” she comments.

Another painting of a lady smoking can be found on the wall beside the kitchen island. It introduces a pop of colour to the predominantly monochromatic interior. This one was picked up from Ladies’ Street during a trip to Hong Kong.

Catherine is open to buying different types of art, “as long as they are not fierce or dark, or too human looking,” she says.
