With two individually-driven rollers in one cleaning head, Dyson Omni-glide can help you clean up your floors in half the time!

Since its establishment in 1991, Dyson has been making waves in the home appliance industry by constantly launching updated models of its hugely popular handheld cordless vacuum cleaners. While you might think its engineering team would have nothing to improve on after three decades of development, Dyson recently introduced its newest star in the floor care category. “We know that there is no one size fits all when it comes to a vacuum cleaner,” says Will. “Everyone has different needs that depend on their cleaning habits, size of their home and floor type. But our Omni-glide does have a few surprises you won’t find elsewhere.”

Will talks about what sets the Omni-glide apart.

Check out my review of the Omni-glide in #CheckItOut with Young Lim here.

Who is the Omni-glide aimed at?
The Dyson Omni-glide is engineered for daily cleaning in city homes and delivers an all-new way to clean hard floors. The omnidirectional fluffy cleaner head moves effortlessly in all directions and around obstacles as well as into tight spaces.

As the focus of this model is the Omni-glide head, what are the new advancements?

The Dyson Omni-glide is our most manoeuvrable vacuum, thanks to two core technologies:  the Omnidirectional Fluffy cleaner head and the new in-line format and our Hyperdymium motor.

The former floats on four 360-degree stabilising castors that allow it to move effortlessly in all directions and into tight spaces. It also has two counter-rotating Fluffy rollers that pick up both fine dust and larger debris as the Omni-glide glides back and forth.

On the brush bar, anti-static black carbon fibre filaments remove the static attraction between fine dust and hard floors and soft woven nylon that also quickly pick up dust and debris from hard floors. Lastly, we designed an articulating neck that allows the machine to lay flat on the floor, so it’s easy to clean under low furniture.

Also, as it is important to make sure the fine dust remains trapped in the bin. Dyson’s five-layer filtration system captures 99.99 per cent of particles as small as 0.3 microns.

All of this is powered by the small yet strong Dyson Hyperdymium motor that spins at up to 105,000rpm to ensure this new format does not compromise on cleaning performance.

The design of the vacuum is slimmer and lighter. How much does it weigh?

The Dyson Omni-glide weighs 1.9kg and is 25 per cent lighter than the Dyson V11 that hits the scales at nearly 3kg.

Does the omni-glide come with lights for dark corners?

The Dyson Omni-glide+, which is exclusive to our direct channels, comes with a light pipe crevice tool that has LED lights to show you where you’re cleaning, even in dark spaces.

What's the battery life like?
It is designed for quick, regular cleans on a regular basis and runs on our energy-dense, lithium-ion battery that delivers up to
20 minutes of fade-free power in eco mode when using a non-motorised tool. Of course, this time may vary according to usage and floor type.

In addition to providing a charging station for all of our machines, our Dyson Omni-glide can also be left overnight to charge. Plus, the battery of the vacuum is never overcharged, so it is always ready to be used. An additional Click-in battery and charger can be purchased separately if you wish to extend the vacuum’s run time.

What has kept the Dyson team focused on improving its current products over the years, and how long have you been working with the company?

I have been with Dyson for just over 10 years now. We believe in creating engineering solutions to everyday problems at Dyson. Therefore, we are constantly improving our pioneering technologies to design solutions for all cleaning needs. For the development of the Omni-glide, our brief was to create a machine that could get into hard-to-reach spaces and move in multiple directions with a great degree of flexibility. And this while maintaining our pioneering Dyson technologies and versatility to provide the best cord-free cleaning experience.

Among all the projects that you’ve helped to develop, what is the most memorable one?

I loved Dyson’s V8 cordless vacuum because it was the first vacuum to use a hygienic bin emptying mechanism that lifts the cyclone up and out, making it effortless to empty the bin. Afterwards, you only need to wipe the etched metal mesh with a silicone wiper. I was particularly proud of this mechanism as it was one I helped to innovate with the New Product Innovation (NPI) team in the UK.

The Dyson Cyclone V10 was also a real thrill as it was the first time that we had completely flipped a layout so that the wand, bin, cyclone, motor, and filters were all lined up. It was a major engineering challenge, but it made significant improvements in efficiency. Also, it has become a mechanism we have maintained in our current sticks. We were so convinced of the success of this machine that we announced at its launch that we would no longer be developing any more corded floor care machines!
