I have long, naturally wavy hair. On most days, I tie it up in a bun to 1) keep the frizz under control and/or 2) manipulate my hair into big, beautiful waves. This doesn't always give me the result I want so, on special occasions, I head to the salon for a blowout. However, it looks like Dyson's latest haircare product, the Dyson Airwrap styler, will save me money and future trips to the salon.

The Dyson Airwrap allows you to achieve smooth, blow-dry finishes as well as bouncy, voluminous curls in a quick and safe manner. No more tangled hair or burns when you try to achieve the perfect curl, and no damaged hair with overheated straighteners. Who needs to pay money for a blowout, right? This is possible thanks to the Coanda effect.

The Coanda effect occurs when a high-speed jet of air flows across a surface and, due to differences in pressure, the air flow attaches itself to the surface. Using the same principal, the Dyson V9 digital motor produces high velocity jets of air which is then dispersed through six air slots. The position of the slots, as well as the Coanda effect, allows the hair to then curl around the heated barrel to style. See it for yourself here.

The machine’s styling brushes also take advantage of the Coanda effect. To achieve a sleek blow dry finish, the brushes (pictured) align hair when styling, helping to provide a smooth shiny finish when dry. Whether you decide to curl your hair inwards or outwards, the combination of air flow and styling brush will help you achieve smooth and neat results.

Like the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, the Dyson Airwrap styler also has intelligent heat control. A glass bead thermistor measures the temperature and transmits the data to the microprocessor, which regulates the products' temperature. This helps ensure hair does not become exposed to extreme heat.

There are a total of six attachments available. From left to to right: The pre-styling dryer is designed to dry hair to the ideal moisture level (damp to touch) before using the curling barrels; 30mm and 40mm Airwrap barrels to create different types of curls and waves for varying hair types; round volumising brush to create volume and shape; firm smoothing brush to create a straighter style with less frizz with thicker, coarser hair; soft smoothing brush with ball-tipped bristles to add body and volume to limp, flat hair while creating a smooth, blow dry finish.

The Dyson Airwrap comes in three sets: one with attachments for limp, flat hair ($649), one for frizz-prone hair ($649), and a complete set with both ($699). It's expensive, but hear me out. Every blowout costs me around $25, which means a complete set is equivalent to 28 salon visits! Will I be visiting the salon more than 28 times in my lifetime? I think so. So is the Dyson Airwrap worth buying? Well, bonus season is around the corner...
