Our new favourite lunch (or any time of the day) spot is Mahota Commune, located in Kitchener Complex in the Jalan Besar area, and just a short walk from the Lavender MRT station.
The massive 20,000sqf space features a restaurant, cafe, supermarket stocking fresh fruit, vegetables and organic groceries, a TCM clinic, wellness studio, and more!

Mahota Commune takes up the entire third floor of Kitchener Complex. The restaurant is right by the entrance; it has an extensive menu of pizzas, pastas, hotpot, and more! When we visited on a weekday, there was a three-course lunch set available for $18.80, and promotions going on for dinner.

We love the sunlight that spills in through the generous amount of windows in the space. It also means that they are able to dress the restaurant up in lots of greenery that gives it a very relaxing feel.

The black skeletal frames of the shelving is a clever way to make the large space feel cosier, without blocking off sunlight from the windows. The shelving are fitted with wooden boxes that act as planters for more greenery.

A handy map marks out where everything is.

The cafe, which serves baked goods such as cakes, bread, coffee, juices, and yoghurt ice-cream, has a more casual vibe.

At the other end of the space where the restaurant is, is the market. It stocks fresh fruits and vegetables (organic, and from their own farm), groceries, chilled meat, dairy products, and more.

8/11

Useful information about organic food, and eating well, dot the space.

The fresh vegetables at Mahota Commune are from their own organic farm in Shanghai. This venture is backed by Prime International, of which Prime Supermarket is part of.
Everything available in the restaurant and cafe can be found in the market.

A selection of eco-friendly tableware made from rice husks can also be bought here - all part of the business' bid to promote a more sustainable lifestyle.

Attractive displays of fresh produce.
