3 Ticks, can use NEA Climate Vouchers to offset the price.
By Home & Decor -
How about a french door fridge for your house? The French door refrigerator design draws inspiration from French-style cabinetry, where double doors open outwards to reveal a wide compartment. In fridges, this translated to two vertical doors for the refrigerator section on top, with a pull-out freezer drawer below.
In Singapore, prices for a french door fridge starts from $1,200 for entry-level models from brands like LG, Samsung, Panasonic, and now Mayer.
| French Door Fridge | Price Range | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-Level | $1,200 - $1,800 | 400–500L capacity, basic finish, bottom freezer drawer, manual settings, no smart features |
| Mid-Range | $1,800 - $2,800 | 500–600L, inverter technology, digital temperature control, adjustable shelving, ice and water dispenser (some models) |
| Premium | $3,000 - $6,000 | 600–800L, smart screens, dual cooling systems, built-in water and ice dispensers, convertible zones, Wi-Fi control, premium finishes (e.g. matte black, glass panel) |
Mayer Fridge Review
This Mayer Fridge MMFF480BI is a stylish 466 litre multi‑door refrigerator with a bottom‑freezer layout, currently priced at $1,999 (discounted from $2,399). If you were to compare it against the prices of other french door fridges on the market, it leans towards the entry-level spectrum - and the features makes sense for that price bracket.
Features are quite simple - built‑in LED display and recessed handle design, Dual Tech Inverter compressor, enhancing energy efficiency while reducing noise and vibration. It is rated with 3 ticks under Singapore’s energy labelling scheme and qualifies for National Environment Agency (NEA) climate vouchers.
There’s a Convertible Zone, which allows you to switch a compartment between fridge and freezer use, and an All Zone Cooling and Metal Cooling technology, which ensure stable temperatures and help maintain freshness even during frequent door openings.
The fridge includes a Power Freeze function to rapidly lower freezer temperatures, ideal when you need to chill or freeze items quickly . Other thoughtful touches include a humidity‑controlled crisper drawer, a door alarm to remind you if a door is ajar, and a deodorising filter to suppress odours. The fridge doors, are however, pretty light and will not fully close with a flick of your hand. You’ll need to be mindful to push the doors to close completely!
In a nutshell, this Mayer fridge comes with multiple compartments that you can control with different temperatures for different uses. However, the touch LED display control on the door of the fridge is not the most intuitive thing. So, you might need to exercise some patience to toggle the temperatures and settings. This means you can expect you won’t be switching up the settings too frequently.
This fridge will suit you if you’re a regular fridge user and you’re not going to stressed over the temperature of your wine or frozen deli meats.
Storage
This Mayer fridge offers three main top fridge shelves and six freezer door pockets, along with an ice tray and ample storage volume – approximately 291 L for fridge items and 175 L for the freezer . Its dimensions (W 795 × D 740 × H 1800 mm) make it well‑suited for larger HDB flats and condominiums, though clearance should be checked carefully in smaller kitchen layouts.
Here’s my honest opinion - the freezer trays are wonderful for organisation! I didn’t have to bring in extra fridge trays to organise things. However, the freezer’s tray structure also eats up a lot of potential storage space. You end up with the space of the trays only - which means some boxes, like the huge bulky hashbrown boxes, or frozen meal boxes couldn’t fit in nicely.
If you’re going to be dragging your bowls, boxes, and cups around the fridge shelves, just note that they’re quite easily scratched.
French Door Fridge
The earliest versions appeared in the United States and parts of Europe in the 1990s, developed by brands like Whirlpool, GE, and LG. These designs focused on accessibility, improved food organisation, and aesthetics for open-plan kitchens.
French door fridges gained major traction in the early 2000s, particularly in North America and Australia, as families looked for fridges with better ergonomics, wider shelving, and energy-saving features. The design’s ability to store large trays and party platters appealed to home entertainers.
By the 2010s, the design became more widely available in Asia and Europe, with brands like Samsung, Panasonic, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, and Bosch releasing their own models. In Singapore, it became popular among middle- to upper-income households, especially those moving into new condominiums or larger BTO flats.
Today’s French door fridges come with smart screens, convertible compartments, and finishes ranging from glass to matte steel. They are considered a premium option, often positioned as a step above traditional two-door fridges in terms of both design and function.
Mayer History
Mayer is a well-established homegrown brand in Singapore, founded in 1987. It began primarily as a distributor of kitchen and household appliances, and quickly gained a reputation for offering affordable, stylish, and practical solutions tailored to the needs of Singaporean homes.
Over the years, Mayer evolved from a distributor into a household name, developing and retailing its own branded range of appliances. Its product offerings include built-in ovens, hobs, cooker hoods, countertop kitchen tools like air fryers and stand mixers, as well as electric kettles, fans, and other cooling appliances. The brand is particularly known for its modern designs, accessible price points, and functionality — making it popular among young homeowners and those living in HDB flats.
Mayer has expanded its presence through several flagship showrooms around Singapore — including outlets at IMM and Tai Seng — and enjoys a strong online retail presence on platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, and Qoo10. In recent years, it has collaborated with local influencers and designers to release limited-edition collections and exclusive colourways, such as pastel-themed appliances.
The brand operates under KHIND Holdings Berhad, a Malaysian-based company that manufactures and distributes electrical home appliances across the region. This partnership allows Mayer to strike a balance between quality engineering and products that suit local tastes and preferences.
As of 2025, Mayer remains a trusted and trendy appliance brand in Singapore, often featured alongside similar home-focused labels like Mistral (also part of the KHIND group). The company continues to invest in seasonal launches, product innovation, and contemporary aesthetics that appeal to younger generations of homeowners.
