Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan Review: Built with ioniser and remote control ($149)
A very demure, very mindful, and very affordable tower fan!
By Teo Jing Yuan -
Growing up, I did not have the best experience with standing fans. In my parents’ home, all we had in the living room was a clunky pedestal standing fan. To counter the Singapore heat, my father opted for a larger fan size to cool the living space.
However, the pedestal fan looked like it would fall anytime, due to the uneven weight distribution with its fan base that could not support the overall large circular fan blades. My bad experience with standing fans is mainly targeted at pedestal fans, as I have heard all of the good things about tower fans, especially with the range of innovative tower fans at Mistral.
Minimal grille design for the Mistral Tower Fan with safety in place.
Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan: Child-Friendly Design
Tower fans are a type of standing fan, except they do not come with the usual large visible circular blades, and are known for their compact and space-saving build. The design of the Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan is one level above the rest of the tower fans, as it was recognised for its innovative sleek, and chic tower fan shape by the IF International Design Award in 2020.
What my family and I love about the Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan’s design is how it is safe around children, thanks to the very demure and very mindful overall soft curves with flushed grilles design, and how there are no sharp edges within the fan that I must worry about. A finger check was also done to confirm that the gaps on the front grilles are safe and will not cause any finger cuts or injuries for the little ones. Additionally, we appreciate how the controls are nicely situated at the top of the tower fan, so we do not have to worry about our child playing with the buttons unnecessarily. The white and minimalistic tower fan design also fits seamlessly into our home’s interior.

Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan: Ioniser & Aroma Box
Do you know that releasing negative ions into the airflow can help to bond with positive particles, such as dust and allergens to neutralise and remove them? The ionisation process is a form of air purification that can help improve and freshen indoor air quality, however, it is not comparable to a full HEPA filter purifier.
The Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan comes with ioniser function at a press of a button. We are used to turning on the ioniser function in our current dehumidifier machine, and we know and have experienced all about the benefits, such as reduced odours and allergens too. There is also no need to purchase and replace any HEPA filter of sorts with the ioniser, so it is one less consumable cost to factor in, with lesser energy required to power as compared to a HEPA purifier.
There is also an aroma box in the tower fan which can double up for air purification purposes too. We noticed that having the aroma box located near the bottom of the fan meant that our child was able to access it, and true enough our very curious toddler tried to open it multiple times, therefore, we would not want to place anything in there for the time being. However, we do think that the aroma box will be good to have in the future, as we could add essential oils to repel any mosquitos or insects.
Detachable fan blade behind the rear grille of the Mistral Tower Fan.
Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan: Detachable Fan Blades
Unlike the typical circular fan blade, tower fans come with vertical fan blades instead. Removing the fan blade on the Mistral tower fan is as easy as removing a single screw on the rear grill, and the entire fan blade component comes right off for a wash before installing it back in when it is all dried.
On the back of the tower fan, you will also find a thoughtful groove design made specially for you to grip and reposition the fan conveniently. You can also choose to simply vacuum the blades without having to go through the hassle of removing it entirely, which was what we did, as we faced some technical difficulties wrestling with the fan blade component and did not want to risk damaging the fan as a result.
Sleek remote control design for the Mistral Tower Fan.
Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan: Remote Control
Many of the tower fans from Mistral, including the Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan are equipped with a handy remote control. What we liked about the remote control for this model of the tower fan in particular was the “mute” function that it offers. We found this mute function extra useful, as we used the fan in our child’s bedroom, and we were able to adjust the fan modes without having the extra beeping noises that it would typically make. It is like we unlocked a secret but handy function which is only available on the remote control.
In addition, we also like how there are no button controls designed on the front of the fan, and they are all located on the top instead, as this helps to prevent any child misuse. One of the other thoughtful features was how we noticed that the light indicators on the fan do not stay lit the whole time, but it is only shown when adjusting the fan settings, so this ensures that there is no added light pollution, especially important when we want complete darkness for our child during bedtime.
12 fan speed settings in the Mistral Tower Fan.
Mistral 43” DC Tower Fan: 12 Fan Speeds and 12-Hour Timer
Left and right oscillation in a fan is a must-have, especially with a tower fan that allows you to ventilate a wider area in the room, where the wind is vertically distributed and can be felt when we are seated on the floor, the bed, and standing upright too.
12 fan speeds in a tower fan felt a bit excessive in the beginning, but we found that being precise with the fan speed is great for our child’s bedroom, as we didn’t want it to be too stuffy nor too chilly at the same time. When compared to the other table fans we have in our home, the noise level on the Mistral Tower Fan seemed to operate on the quieter side and worked perfectly in our child’s bedroom. With the 12-hour timer, we were also able to set it in advance to turn off after 12 hours, and we do not have to worry about leaving the fan on when it is not in use.
Compact, slim, and minimal Mistral Tower Fan design.
Mistral 43” DC Tower MFD4308DR Fan: Retails at $149
We do not have any prior experience with a tower fan, but we were genuinely pleased with the overall performance and cooling efficiency of the Mistral 43” Tower Fan after using it for over a month. As we have a child in the house, we have many considerations to think about, beyond just the size and design, when it comes to the fans that we bring into our home.
Therefore, bladeless fans were top of our list initially, until we got to experience the Mistral Tower Fan for the first time. Tower fans do not come with conventional circular blade design and hence, they are safer around children. For those living in a humble HDB home like us, a tower fan like this one from Mistral fits the bill with its affordable price point at $149, unlike a bladeless fan option which would easily cost double that amount or more.
The Mistral 43” Tower Fan is also one of the products at Mistral labelled with a Green Mark, which is part of Mistral’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in Singapore. For every purchase of the Mistral 43” Tower Fan or other Green Mark product, $3 will be donated to the Greenleaf Fund, which supports Singapore’s OneMillionTrees Movement.
Mistral Greenleaf 43” DC Tower Fan is available at $149 on Amazon and Lazada.
