Mistral Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV Review (MDH1022)
The Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022 is priced at $279.

The constant weather fluctuations makes me feel as if I've traversed through both the Sahara Desert and Amazon Rainforest within a single afternoon. I understand that saunas are a luxury, but constantly being subjected to the heat is the furthest thing from relaxing.
I had never used a dehumidifier before, so when my coworkers started talking about their dehumidifiers and how handy they were in this weather, I was admittedly skeptical. By a stroke of sheer fortune, Mistral reached out to us and offered to send a product for us to try.
So, here's an unfiltered review of the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022, priced at $279.

Mistral Dehumidifier
The first thing I noticed as I grabbed the handle and lifted the dehumidifier from the box was how heavy it was for its compact size. Fortunately, that was the only time I had to carry it, because it had castor wheels that rolled smoothly, and in any direction, which was a major plus.
For it to work, I needed to plug it into a power switch, which was expected. However, this does mean that should you want to put it in your bathroom, or in the kitchen or near your laundry rack, there has to be a power socket nearby.
Short cable length
The wire is considerably short - only measuring about 175 cm long, so it does have to be pretty close to a socket, unless you have an extension cord lying around. The wire itself is pretty thick and can be unsightly, so if you're conscious about open wires in your home, you might want to plan where they'll be placed and how the wire will be hidden.
Dimensions
The dehumidifier itself is 40.55 cm tall, and 27 by 20.5 cm in area, so it can be hidden in pretty much any nook and cranny without struggle.

4 Dehumidifier modes
The Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022 has four main modes; Handsfree control, Maximum power, Everyday use, and Fan. The dehumidifier is fitted with soft buttons, and changing between modes is a breeze, as well as setting the fan speed and percentage of humidity you want.
After leaving it on for 2 hours in a closed room, the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV shows that humidity levels have dropped to 50%.
Displays room humidity
Upon connected to power, the digital indicator indicates the current room humidity. I brought this to different rooms in the house, one with the aircon switched on and another room with the window open, and the Mistral dehumidifier was quick to respond to the humidity levels - it swiftly showed 72% and 87% respectively.
After setting your desired humidity level, the dehumidifier's display bounces back to showing the room's current humidity level by default. You can also press the home button for 3 seconds to show the room's current temperature.
The filter in the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022
Ionizer and UV purifier
The dehumidifier had the qualities of an air purifier, with the ability to remove all sorts of impurities. The ionizer removes inorganic pollutants, such as small particles of dust, smoke, and allergens. The UV rays eradicates organic pollutants such as mold, bacteria, and viruses. And the carbon filter traps dust or ash flying about your room.
Carbon Filter
The carbon filter is easy to remove and clean, which is certainly a plus. It should be cleaned every two weeks, wiping gently with a warm washcloth, but mine had hardly been on a day before I found flecks of dust in it. Perhaps my room is exceptionally musty.
Leaking from the water tank of the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier
Dehumidifier leaking water
The dehumidifier came with a small tube for continuous draining (it is really short, no longer than 40 cm in total). Sadly, my power socket was too far from the bathroom, and since I wanted to test out the tank capacity, I didn't attach it.
I left it running on a hot afternoon, and when I checked on it in an hour, I found it lying in a small pool of water. Panicked, I opened the tank, only to find it completely dry.
Turns out I didn't close the plug at the back, whoops! So be sure to do that before flooding your room. At least I knew it worked like a charm.
The given drainage pipe on the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022, was too short to use from the bedroom, but might be useful in the bathroom or near the laundry!
Be sure to close this plug or insert the drainage tube on your Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022, before turning it on!
You can remove the tank and empty out the water easily on your Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022.
Mistral Dehumidifier Review
Removes humidity fast
After leaving it running for a couple of hours, I did feel a difference in the air. It was cooler and drier, and though I normally begin sweating when I leave the AC off in my room, this time, I was completely sweat-free.
The difference was especially evident when I opened my room door and was slapped by the humid air right outside. It wasn't that much cooler, but it was certainly damper.
My favourite mode is the Laundry mode, even though I used it more for my own personal comfort. It removes the humidity quickest, and automatically set it to a higher fan speed, cooling down the room fast. Though it doesn't lower the temperature like an air con would, it made a noticeable difference in my comfort level when spending my afternoon in my room.
Quiet Noise Level
Over night, however, Laundry mode is a little too loud for my comfort, so I set it to Auto instead. It's quiet and hardly even noticeable, providing a gentle white noise to fall asleep to.
No temperature controls
Though the device itself might run warm, not to worry, for the air blowing out remains cool. Not like air condition type of cool, but about room temperature.
Though I wouldn't get it to replace a fan, it still effectively circulates the air in a room and promotes air flow.
Convenience
The 2.2L capacity water tank is sufficiently large to leave it running for hours, so those who plan to use it overnight can rest assured it won't overflow.
On the strongest setting, it takes about 6 hours in an outdoor, constantly damp post-rain environment to fill up the tank, though you might want to switch it up more often than that because carrying a 2 litre tank of water isn't easy, unless you plan to wheel it to your bathroom every time.
At a more moderate setting, and in an enclosed space, it can last over a day before needing to be emptied, so you can practically ignore it. Additionally, it'll notify you with a light-up button when it needs to be emptied, so you don't have to stare at the transparent panel and gauge yourself.
Obvious air vent design
If you do plan on using the fan function, do note that the really cute polka dot design is not the side that'll be facing outwards. Instead, the slightly less cute behind is where the air comes out from, with the wire jutting out below.
The cable on the Mistral 10L Dehumidifier with Ionizer and UV, MDH1022, can be quite limiting.
The wire is also a big restriction - without an extension chord, I can't put the dehumidifier where my laundry usually goes, or in my bathroom, and I don't particularly like the cumbersome look of wires left around the floor.
Overall Verdict
The Mistral Dehumidifier has definitely increased the comfort of my home, especially afternoon rains that steam the air for the rest of the evening.
The air purifying abilities might also be an attractive point to those who suffer from allergies. The laundry function really does dry my laundry quicker too, especially on rainy days, but that is only after I went through the trouble of dragging the rack to a spot near a socket.
Anyone already considering getting a dehumidifier can consider this model, with many functions and settings for the considerably cheap price of $279.
However, I would not recommend buying this to replace a fan or an aircon. It works well with an existing cooling appliance, especially with fans, but is not enough to create a cool and comfortable atmosphere when used alone.
