Mistral Radiance Pro Hair Dryer Review ($169)
This affordable and fast hair dryer rivals that famous British brand’s hair dyer. If you know, you know, ya?

Unlike our vacuum cleaner or fan, one of the most frequently used daily appliances in our family is the hair dryer. We run our hair dryer 3 to 5 times each day. Having had past experiences with budget run-of-the-mill hair dryers, one of which even exploded in front of my face, I know how important it is to get an efficient and reliable hair dryer, as it is an essential everyday household appliance in Singapore.
After spending too much money on a multi-styler device that does not dry my hair as quickly, I knew I needed to try out one of the latest hair dryers in the market - the newly-launched Mistral Radiance series of hair dryers that promises fast drying capabilities from just 3 minutes for shoulder-length hair.
The iconic brushless motor hair dryer design that we are used to.
Brushless Motor Hair Dryers
There is a wide range of hair dryers available in Singapore, from ionic hair dryers to full-blown professional salon-grade hair dryers. The BLDC (brushless DC) motor hair dryers are the most common type of hair dryers that are gaining popularity and are becoming widely available among various brands recently.
When it comes to brushless motor hair dryers, the first brand that comes to mind is the iconic Dyson Supersonic hair dryers, which typically come at a premium price tag of around $500 onwards.
Brushless DC motors are commonly used in various home appliances, including washing machines, air conditioners, electric fans, and refrigerators. When hair dryers were equipped with a brushless motor instead of a traditional brushed motor, users got a new generation of hair dryers with smoother operation, increased efficiency, longer lifespan, along with overall noise reduction.
High-speed brushless motor hair dryers, like the Mistral Radiance Pro hair dryer, spins at 110,000 rpm, uses electronic control instead of a physical brush to offer consistent and adjustable settings for heat and speed.

Mistral Radiance Pro Features
Aside from being fitted with a brushless digital motor, the Mistral Radiance Pro hair dryer is also designed with NTC smart thermostat technology, which operates up to 50 times per second. This technology, combined with built-in thermal sensors and temperature control, helps prevent excess heat from damaging the hair. Additionally, the negative and plasma ioniser within the hair dryer are also great for caring for the hair, providing better frizz control and a range of other benefits for the hair.
Mistral Radiance Pro also comes with a magnetic hair attachment, which is something like a smoothing nozzle to curb flyaway or frizzy hair.

Mistral Radiance Pro Fast Drying
As someone who has never owned a fast-drying hair dryer, the Mistral Radiance Pro was a game-changer for me. My hair drying time was halved, which is about 15 minutes. It has always been a struggle to dry my thick, shoulder-length and wavy hair. I hated the fact that I could never air-dry my wet hair completely, and how my pillow always turned yellow because of my damp hair.
I always relied on hot hair tools to keep my hair presentable daily. I opted for a multi-functional hair styling tool previously, but the amount of time it used to take me to dry my hair every day? Up to a good 30 minutes!

Auto-Clean Filter
The first thing that caught my attention about the Mistral Radiance Pro was the smart filter auto-clean mode. The filter requires regular cleaning to remove any dust build-up and unclog the mesh. For Mistral Radiance Pro, the auto-clean mode reverses the air blow direction, which essentially blows air away from the filter to unclog the dust build-up.
The wind speed for the reverse air blow feature is not what you would expect from the regular hair dryer. It is good to activate the auto-clean mode regularly if you use your hair dryer daily. I learnt from first hand experience that I shouldn’t leave an entire month’s worth of dust build-up in the hair dryer - oops!
It’s a straightforward, no frills and fast drying hair dryer!
Mistral Radiance Pro Review
As someone with an unruly lion’s mane to deal with, I rely heavily on hot hair tools. I never knew that a fast-drying hair dryer was essential, not until I tried it for the past month. Having a fast hair dryer dramatically improved my the brevity of my daily routine, especially since I have a toddler (he hates getting his hair blown dry!).
And yet, I could never justify paying over $500 for a hair dryer. Knowing that the Mistral Radiance range of hair dryers retails from $79 (for Lite) and upwards to $169 (for the Pro version I reviewed) was a sigh of relief! By the way, both the Mistral Radiance Lite and Pro come with the main features like magnetic hair attachment and an auto-clean filter, so you will not be missing out on anything.
