Will we ever get used to the hot and humid weather in Singapore? Probably not, especially not with the increasing heat temperature. This is why it is important to equip your home with the necessary air circulation to stay cool and sane.

In our last Mistral Greenleaf II fan review, we briefly covered incorporating the fan into our smart home system using the remote that comes with it. Honestly, we have yet to do so, as it is not the most straightforward process, since the Mistral Greenleaf II fan requires an additional IR/RF smart home hub to be compatible with our smart home system.

Knowing that the latest Mistral Greenleaf III MHV1424DRW-G standing fan comes with built-in smart WiFi features, we knew that we had to get our hands on the fan to experience it for ourselves.

Mistral Greenleaf III Fans Review: Prices from $149

If you have been following the Mistral Greenleaf fan series, you will know that the Mistral fans in this series come in a consistent eco-friendly and Scandinavian wood-look theme. What is extra special for the Mistral Greenleaf III series is the added smart WiFi and mood light features for all 3 fans - the desk fan, wall-mounted fan, and the adjustable standing fan with prices from $149.

Among the Mistral Greenleaf III fans, the wall-mounted fan, retailing at $159 is the most outstanding. On top of the smart WiFi, remote control, and mood light features, the Mistral Greenleaf III wall-mounted fan is also designed with our favourite motion-sensing function. If you have a smart home, you will know how sensors are a great tool when it comes to automation.

DC Fan vs AC Fan

With a young child at home, we were intentional about where we wanted to position the stand fan. After much deliberation, we decided to retire our compact 10-year-old AC desk fan in our home office and replace it with the Mistral Greenleaf DC fan instead.

The main issue we had with the desk fan was the fact it is not the most energy-saving appliance in our regular HDB household, since it is running on AC (Alternating Current) motor. Older fans tend to be equipped with an AC motor, rather than the energy-efficient DC (Direct Current) fan, like the ones in Mistral Greenleaf fans. Aside from overheating and thermal protection, DC fans in general come with a wider range of speed settings and quieter operation. This is also the reason why only DC fans are eligible for purchase with Singapore’s Climate Vouchers.

Sleek and Seamless Design

Like the other iterations of Mistral Greenleaf fans, the Mistral Greenleaf III stand fan also comes with wood-look accents on the fan grille and pedestal base, as well as an overall sleek white design. The touch sensor controls are integrated seamlessly into the pedestal base. What is great about the on the whole for the Mistral Greenleaf III stand fan is its study built from the base to the adjustable stand and fan grille.

One thing I wish that the Mistral Greenleaf III fan had included was the initial assembly instructions, as I spent a good half an hour figuring out how to put the fan together safely. You would not be able to imagine, but I didn’t even know that there was a screw that needed to be installed at the underside of the base. I was just puzzled the whole time wondering why was the stand disconnected from the base whenever I needed to reposition the fan!

Height Adjustable Standing Fan

Flexibility and multi-functionality are key criteria for us when it comes to the furniture and appliances we have, especially if you are living in a humble HDB home like ours. Height-adjustable fans made sense to us at the start, as it promises versatility of use where the fan can be lowered or raised according to different purposes.

This is our first time trying out a height-adjustable standing fan, and to be completely honest, it wasn’t as impressive as we thought it would be. The lowest height of the Mistral Greenleaf III stand fan is 94 cm, while the highest goes up to about 117 cm. The difference of 23 cm didn’t make a big difference to us, as the strong fan speed can be felt at the lowest and highest levels.

What I imagined that a height-adjustable fan could do is for it to be placed at the desk or standing on the floor for greater flexibility of use. Due to the 14” fan size and the huge pedestal base, it is too large to be positioned on any regular study table. We also tried placing it on a lower side table, and it looked gigantic in a common bedroom space, but it would probably be an ideal fan solution to improve air circulation for homes without ceiling fans installed.

WiFi Smart Stand Fan

We have all heard of smart WiFi ceiling fans, but having smart WiFi capability incorporated into a pedestal standing fan is something rather refreshing, aside from the ones we know from Xiaomi and Mowe.

What we particularly enjoy about having the WiFi capabilities within the fan is that we can control our Mistral standing fan handsfree, and with just a simple “Hey Google” voice command. Additionally, I appreciate that I can remotely view the fan status on my Google Home, allowing me to monitor when the fan is turned on and left unattended, which often happens in our household. Alternatively, I could also set the schedules for the standing fan in our home office to be turned off automatically at 1 am, so that we can minimise the chances of leaving it running for the entire night unknowingly.

Smart Home Compatible

Does it feel excessive knowing that I had to download another mobile app just so I could use the smart features? Yes, but knowing how easy the setup is with the Mayer Home app, compared to what was mentioned regarding the whole IR/RF universal remote process, I would 100% opt for just downloading the mobile app.

The steps to download the app and sync the Mistral Greenleaf fan with our Google Home were clearly explained in the printed manual, so it is easy for any layman like myself to set up.

On the Mayer Home app, I get the full set of controls, even better than the ones on the control panel of the fan or the physical remote. I could go straight in for the bright night light mode, instead of having to press the light button twice to go from soft to bright mode. However, I still prefer accessing the fan controls via our Google Home as our general command center.

Mistral Greenleaf III Stand Fan Price $229 on Lazada and Shopee

A durable and sturdy fan, like the Mistral Greenleaf III stand fan should be able to last over 10 years, as a 10-year motor warranty is included with every purchase. It comes with almost all of the features you can think of in a fan, reducing the need to ever replace it in the future if and when something new comes along.

Admittedly, a $229 upfront cost of a standing fan might seem extravagant to many of us, so it is up to you and your family to decide if this amount is worth the investment. Alternatively, the Mistral Greenleaf III desk fan retailing at $149 should work just as well with the same features included. Just remember to use your climate vouchers to offset this cost, and use them wisely nevertheless!
