MUJI Furniture: New 2023 collection launched today (Prices included)

Visiting MUJI for absolutely no reason is a national sport in Singapore. Whether you're a JC kid on your first date, a primary school kid looking for a cool-looking notebook, or a first-time homeowner who's just collected your HDB BTO keys, we all somehow end up jalan jalan in MUJI.

MUJI first launched in Singapore way back in 1995. Over the years, the Japanese homeware and furniture store has expanded its presence in our tiny island and finally landed itself a Southeast Asian flagship store here in Plaza Singapura in 2017.

Then, we also started MUJI food from the MUJI Cafe. Honestly, we're just missing the MUJI houses and hotels at this juncture.

New MUJI Furniture Collection 2023

The brand's walnut, oak, and Japandi-styled furniture has been a hit with Singaporeans in the past decade. On Jan 11, 2023, it's finally released a brand new series of furniture made from sustainable rubberwood.

According to Mr Katsushi Onishi, Managing Director at MUJI Singapore, “MUJI is strongly committed to providing our customers with a vast and versatile range of environmentally-friendly lifestyle products. They are functional daily necessities that support everyday life. Our purpose is to deliver comfort and practicality, where our products are known for being ‘just right’.”

MUJI Rubberwood Furniture 2023: Pricelist Complete

This new MUJI Rubberwood furniture series comprises of furniture for the bedroom, living, dining and storage.

Here's a handy overview of all the new furniture pieces by MUJI. It's a mix of brand new designs, and popular existing designs that are getting re-launched in rubberwood.

While some furniture pieces are already available in the MUJI Plaza Singapura store, some may only be available from end January 2023 onwards.

Let's dive right into each furniture piece:

MUJI Wooden Storage Bed

Storage beds make effective use of underbed space to provide ample storage space and accessibility to store items such as luggage, comforters, and beddings.

As with the old MUJI beds, mattresses and bedframes are sold separately.

Wooden Low Table Oval

Showcasing a natural wood grain, the oval design has no sharp corners which soften and adds an inviting feel to the living space.

MUJI Highback Reclining Sofa 1 Seater / Ottoman

Relaunched with rubberwood material, this is a personal highback lounge chair. Both the back and
head rests feature a reclining function which allow you to adjust your sofa to your desired angle.
There are 6 different level positions to choose from for maximum comfort.

MUJI Wooden Sofa

A simple wooden sofa can give a new face to any room, bringing in warmth and coziness. The sofa design uses a wooden frame as its main body, focusing on simplicity, the frames come in 4 main parts - easy to fix, convenient to carry around.

The deep seat gives you enough room to relax in, and the cushions are constructed to provide a cushiness, comfortable support.

Wooden Coat Stand ($93)

A space-efficient 3-legged coat stand that can be easily assembled by screwing in the parts. Like a plant placed in the corner of a room, the assembled product becomes a natural part of the room's interior.

Wooden Paper Towel Holder ($7.30)

Made wit all-natural rubberwood, the wooden paper towel holder is sturdy yet lightweight and easily portable. A sleek and simple design perfect for any kitchen.

Wooden Tray Stand ($99)

Lightweight and portable, the wooden tray (not part of the Rubberwood series, belongs to the ASEAN household collection) is removable which makes clearing the table a breeze and the C-shaped stand slide easily under a sofa or chair to maximise space.

Wooden Slipper Rack ($29.90)

A slipper rack made from rubber wood. Fits about 4 pairs of shoes.

Wooden Magazine Rack ($20.90)

A magazine rack made from rubber wood. Place it next to a sofa or low table. A simple design that blends in well with any furniture or interior design theme.

Wooden Dining Table

This rubberwood dining series allows users to make good use of the limited space and contribute to
a flexible solution for daily living.

There are only two dining table sizes for MUJI:

• 1 to 2 people: A table of 75cm in both length and width fit 1 person comfortably and is also wide enough to share among 2 people when occasion calls for it.
• Up to 4 people: When space is tight, a table length of 120cm is just right to fit up to 4 people with slight allowance around.

Small dining table size measures L75cm x W75cm x H73cm and is priced at $279.

Large dining table size measures L120xm x W75cm x H73cm and is priced at $369.

Wooden Extension Table

Extendable table are great space-saving design. The Wooden Extension Table combines the benefit
of both the S and L size Wooden Dining Table. The table has a compact length of 75cm when folded
in and can be extended out to 120cm when required.

Extension dining table measures L90 to 120cm x W75cm x H73cm and is priced at $399.

Wooden Chair / Wooden Round Chair

These chairs can be paired with the dining table, and they come together to create an inviting and
warm atmosphere. The gentle concavity allow user to sit for a prolong time without growing weary
of it.

Wooden Bench

A traditionally shaped bench that has been used for a long time in China. Light and portable, it can

allowing it to be used alongside each other when more storage space is required. Pedestal type

What is Rubberwood?

According to MUJI, rubberwood is a type of hardwood timber that's high quality and environmentally friendly material. MUJI derived their rubberwood from rubber trees grown in Southeast Asia - supposedly an agricultural byproduct of the rubber industry.

This method of deriving rubberwood can reportedly reduce deforestation solely for furniture, helps MUJI to keep agricultural costs lower, and supports the local businesses and farmers.

Mr Yoshihisa Matsunaga, Merchandising Manager at MUJI Singapore shared: “At MUJI, we prioritise
sustainability by sourcing local materials, like the rubberwood in our Southeast Asian-grown rubber trees,
for our production. We stay true to our commitment to deliver an exceptional customer experience with
every product.”

All the furniture pieces in this new launch is supposedly designed by ASEAN MUJI teams for ASEAN users.

New MUJI Cafe&Meal Opening in April 2023

Along with this launch, the brand also revealed that there will be a new MUJI Cafe&Meal store opening this April 2023 at Tanjong Pagar's 100AM mall.
