OOMMI probiotic-based cleaners for the home and pets
This probiotic cleaner is transforming home hygiene in Singapore with natural, bacteria-friendly solutions that go beyond surface cleaning to restore balance to your indoor environment while reducing reliance on harsh chemicals.

For many homeowners, keeping a clean home often feels like a balancing act between effectiveness and safety. Harsh chemical cleaners promise to kill germs but can leave behind strong fumes, skin irritants, and environmental guilt. On the flip side, “natural” options often come with vague labels and underwhelming results. Stepping into this gap is OOMMI, a new probiotic-based cleaning brand that challenges conventional notions of hygiene. Instead of sterilising your space, it introduces good bacteria to restore microbial balance (think of it as Yakult for your home). We speak with James Thong, Director of OOMMI Singapore, about what makes this science-backed approach more than just a trend, and why it might just be the cleanest clean yet.
What makes probiotic cleaning different from the “eco-friendly” options already crowding Singapore’s supermarket shelves?
We market our products as live, natural cleaners with active fermentation in every bottle. Each spray contains millions of beneficial microbes that create a healthy microbiome on surfaces, cleaning and protecting them for days, not just hours. These live microbes eliminate harmful bacteria, then stay on to shield surfaces, even moving into cracks and fabric layers to remove odours. Our ingredients are strictly non-toxic to ensure the microbes survive. How safe are they? So safe, we encourage customers to use the diluted wastewater to water their plants; our microbes help break down soil nutrients, and we’ve documented improved plant growth, including flowering orchids. Our HQ in Penang even uses raw probiotics for organic farming. Unlike most cleaners, ours can break down biofilm over time and eliminate harmful bacteria like E. coli and salmonella, as well as yeast, fungi, and trapped viruses. As a brand policy, all products are preservative-free.
Enzyme cleaners are an alternative form of home cleaning solutions currently available on the market, but how is a probiotic-based cleaner different from an enzyme cleaner?
Like enzyme cleaners, probiotic cleaners are natural, but ours go further. Each spray contains millions of live beneficial microbes that clean and protect for days. Once the microbes die off after a year or two, the cleaner transitions into an enzyme cleaner. While still effective against stains, grease and bacteria, it loses the ability to hunt and neutralise bacteria beyond surface level.
Some enzyme cleaners may irritate sensitive skin or eczema, but our probiotic cleaners are formulated to soothe. Each bottle contains food-grade, plant-based glycerin to nourish the probiotics and help calm the skin, an ingredient commonly used in skincare. Many users with eczema have shared that our Laundry and Dishwashing Liquids reduced flare-ups even when used with bare hands.
Our pet care range is also gaining attention for its natural healing properties. Products like our Hypoallergenic Pet Shampoo and Skin Treatment Spray have been effective in treating yeast and fungal infections, promoting fur regrowth. Pet owners love our unscented Pet Odour Eliminator, which works as a dry shampoo and odour remover, penetrating fur and litter to relieve itching, prevent infections, and neutralise smells without synthetic fragrances.
Can we use a probiotic-based cleaner and other chemical disinfectants together?
No, they should not be used together. Our live microbes only thrive in toxin-free environments, while traditional disinfectants like bleach will kill them, so they should never be used together.
Singapore’s climate is warm and humid, creating a breeding ground for mould and bacteria. Can probiotic cleaners realistically help in managing these common household issues?
Probiotic live microbes can easily hunt and eliminate bad bacteria. The live microbes can also compete with mould for spaces, and break down mould over some time. For seriously mould-infected spaces, it is still time-saving to use bleach to quickly remove the mould completely first and allow the surface to dry up before using our Multi Purpose Cleaner to maintain the surfaces, and block the initial outbreak of mould.
OOMMI’s probiotic-based cleaning products for homes and pets retail from $20 and can be purchased from Oommi, Lazada and Shopee.
