The Blizzard CX1

My family has been using Miele vacuum cleaners for a long time, with the S8310 Power Plus being the current model used at home. So when Miele kindly sent a unit of their Blizzard CX1 Excellence PowerLine for us to review, I was pretty excited to test it out.

The Blizzard CX1 is the German brand’s first bagless cylinder model. So, instead of a regular dust bag, it is fitted with a 2-litre dust container that you can easily remove and empty. The Blizzard CX1 is powered by Vortex technology that produces cyclonic air flow of more than 100km/h. This separates the coarse debris and fine dust, with the former landing in the dust container, and the latter in the separate container with a fine dust filter.

Miele always integrates its many accessories into the body of their vacuum cleaners, and the Blizzard CX1 is no different. The upholstery and crevice nozzle are neatly fitted at the back, and a dusting brush is integrated in the handle, which make reaching for these tools convenient. Assembling the Blizzard CX1 was very intuitive; I didn’t even need to refer to the manual.

As usual, Miele didn't disappoint in terms of performance. My floors were left spotless in its wake, even when vacuuming at the lowest power of its four-level setting. Emptying the dust container though, was a little trickier. It’s true that the Click2open function makes emptying easy, but the opening is fairly wide so you need some practice to ensure that you angle it right so dust doesn’t spill everywhere. The Blizzard CX1 is also rather bulky, but for a reason -  to fit its air filtration components like the Gore CleanStream filter that traps fine dust and HEPA AirClean filter (only in the higher-end models).

The Gore CleanStream filter traps fine dust within its fibrous material. Apart from its self-cleaning feature, users can also initiate cleaning of the filter with a touch of the Comfort Clean button.

The verdict? The Blizzard CX1 will be perfect for people looking for a powerful vacuum cleaner with air filtration capabilities, and also want to save on bag costs.

The Miele Blizzard CX1 PowerLine retails from $539. Up till 1 Jan 2019, receive free floor care accessories (worth up to $195) with purchase of the Blizzard bagless vacuum cleaner.
