Affordable functionality meets Japanese minimalism at Nitori, Japan’s largest furniture and home furnishing retail brand that made its way to Singapore shores in end 2022. The first flagship store takes up some 31,630 sq ft on the fourth level of COURTS Nojima The Heeren, selling just about everything from bedding to kitchen accessories.

Nitori is a prominent Japanese furniture and home-furnishing retail company, often likened to the “IKEA of Japan.” Founded in 1967, Nitori has grown to become Japan’s largest furniture and home-furnishing retailer, operating some 700 stores domestically and 90 internationally, including locations in China, Taiwan, the United States, and Malaysia.

In March 2022, Nitori expanded into the Southeast Asian market by opening its first store in Singapore. This inaugural outlet is situated on the entire fourth floor (31,630 sq ft) of Courts Nojima The Heeren, located along Orchard Road, Singapore’s main shopping district. The store offers a wide array of products, including furniture, bedding, kitchen goods, and more, organised under five main themes: Simple, Natural, Vintage, Feminine, and Japanese Modern.

Nitori’s expansion into Singapore is part of a broader strategy to establish a significant presence in Southeast Asia. The company plans to open 10 stores in Singapore and 20 in Malaysia over the next five years. This move aligns with Nitori’s vision to operate 3,000 stores globally and achieve sales of 3 trillion yen by 2032, based on its mission to “enrich homes around the world.”

In 2025, there are four Nitori stores in Singapore - Nitori Orchard, Nitori Jurong Westgate, Nitori Eastpoint (Simei), and Nitori Chinatown Point.

Close to home, there are two Nitori JB stores, namely Nitori Mid Valley Southkey and Nitori Toppen Shopping Centre.

Nitori opened its first Malaysian store on January 20, 2022, at the Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The store itself is decked out in the same minimalist décor and warm bright lighting that welcomes shoppers on the floors below. Each room in the home gets its own section, from sofas to beds to dining sets.

What stands out about Nitori’s offerings is just how suitable their furniture is for compact Singapore homes – their modular sofas in particular are well suited to smaller living rooms, with several stylish fabric and leather options to choose from.

Three levels of cooling technology – N-Cool, N-Cool Super, and N-Cool W Super – are available for even the most discerning of sleepers. Their pillows also cater to various sleeper profiles and bed types, with different heights, lengths, and levels of firmness.

While prices are affordable, Nitori strives to maintain a high standard of craftsmanship and thoughtful design in all their products.

Their dining section showcases dining tables, chairs, and movable carts built specially for small spaces, with those labelled Nitori Studio crafted in their own factory. Kitchen cabinets are also available, with niches specially dedicated for essential appliances such as rice cookers and microwave ovens.

“Our central location at COURTS Nojima The Heeren in Singapore is strategic and in line with our aim of enabling Singaporeans from all walks of life to freely design their homes with comfort and fun in mind.”

Nitori is located at COURTS Nojima The Heeren, 260 Orchard Road, Level 4.
