Dyson Clean Trace AR (Augmented Reality) App: For Gen5detect vacuums only
By Aaron Yip -
Dyson has introduced a new feature called Dyson Clean Trace, which utilises augmented reality (AR) to enhance users’ vacuuming experience. Dyson CleanTrace, available through the MyDyson app, uses the lidar scanner on iPhones (iPhone 12 Pro and newer models) to show which areas have been cleaned and which have been missed.
Only for Dyson Gen5Detect Vacuums
The feature is only available on the Dyson Gen5detect vacuum cleaner, however.
How to use Dyson Clean Trace?
To use Dyson CleanTrace, Dyson Gen5detect vacuum users will have to mount their iPhones to the vacuum using a specially designed clamp, which will be sold separately.
In a press release, Dyson says it developed CleanTrace to address inefficiencies in how people vacuum. This insight was based on “hundreds of hours” of observing home cleaning around the world and studying how long each cleaning session lasts. Despite the Dyson Gen5detect vacuum already having a green headlight to highlight dirt, Dyson Clean Trace is meant to provide an additional level of verification that floors are thoroughly cleaned.
Not compatible with other Dyson vacuum cleaners
I think the concept is pretty cool, though I find it odd that Dyson Clean Trace won’t work with other Dyson vacuums and only with the Gen5detect. From my personal experience, models such as the excellent Dyson V12 detect slim also feature the same functions that allow it to detect microscopic dust as well as the same fluffy optic cleaner head that reveals ‘invisible dust’ on floors. It’s also not clear if Android smartphones will be supported.
I guess we’ll find out when the Dyson Clean Trace becomes available in Singapore. Watch this space.
