Here’s some background about Samsung’s latest air-cooling efforts. The WindFree series was first introduced in 2016 as a floor-standing model in its home market, South Korea. Its popularity led to the launch of its first wall-mounted WindFree aircon, which debuted at CES 2017. The rest was pretty much history, with occasional lineup refreshes that added more features and improved upon others over time.

Fast forward to date, Samsung still has up-to-date versions of its floor-standing WindFree air conditioners, along with the conventional wall-mounted variants available in other markets (like India, The Philippines, and even South Africa).

The Samsung WindFree Air Conditioners have one unique feature that’s hardwired into their design and aesthetic. Each wall-mounted indoor unit features 23,000 micro air holes, designed to mitigate direct cold air exposure to its owners. The air holes are found across the indoor unit's front, sides, and vanes, helping to disperse cold air slowly through its special WindFree Cool Mode.

WindFree Cooling helps to keep the room's temperature just right, without needing the aircon unit to blow vigorously all the time. It takes into account your preferred temperature setting and the ambient temperature of the room.

Samsung Singapore said that these holes have several benefits. The aircon units can provide rapid cooling or slow, silent cooling, offering the best of both worlds. You can quickly cool a room, for example, and switch to WindFree mode and let its 23,000 holes slowly disperse cool air to maintain the status quo. The latter is especially helpful for users sensitive to temperature changes during sleep.

WindFree Good Sleep automates the cooling process by keeping tabs of the room's ambient temperature, and it ramps up only when needed.

Samsung Aircon Modes

To accommodate that, Samsung has several AI-powered cooling features on top of conventional aircon modes like “Dry” or “Fan Only”. They are Fast CoolingWindFree Cooling, and WindFree Good Sleep modes.
