Samsung 55” Micro RGB R85H (2026) Review: $2,999 for vibrant visuals and smart household convenience
After spending two weeks with Samsung’s new Micro RGB TV, a busy mum of two breaks down how its striking picture quality and helpful AI fit into a bustling family home.

As a busy working mother of two, the living room TV is pretty much the central hub of our home. So when I had the chance to try out the new Samsung 55” Micro RGB R85H 4K Vision AI Smart TV (2026) for two weeks, I was eager to see if it would actually fit into our daily routine or just be another over-complicated gadget.
Easy to set up
Setting it up over the first weekend was surprisingly painless. Because I already use a Samsung smartphone, all I had to do was scan a QR code on the screen, and the TV practically set itself up in minutes. It instantly synced with my other Samsung devices too.
My sons don’t use Samsung phones, but they had zero issues navigating the TV. The interface is intuitive enough that they could pick it up straight away without asking me for help every five minutes.
Vibrant colour performance
What impressed me immediately was the screen’s colour performance. My family currently uses an LG TV, but the colours on this Samsung are sharper, brighter, and much stronger.
Samsung initially released its Micro RGB TV technology on August 12, 2025, debut-launching it on a massive ultra-premium 115-inch model before expanding the line across mainstream sizes (55" to 115").
Samsung uses Micro RGB technology, which essentially replaces standard backlights with tiny, dedicated red, green, and blue LEDs alongside precise local dimming. In plain terms, instead of washing out colours to make the picture brighter, it gives you extremely rich, accurate shades without ruining dark shadows.
It even covers 100% of the BT.2020 colour space - a fancy industry standard that basically means you get true-to-life colours certified by top testing bodies. For our bright living room during daytime watching, it made a world of difference, and I didn’t even need to tweak any picture settings.

At first, though, the AI features gave us a bit of a headache. During that initial weekend, my family tried messing around with the new AI functions, but we found them quite tricky to navigate.
The Vision AI Companion relies on multiple AI agents (including Gemini and Perplexity) to give smart responses on screen, but when you’re not used to speaking or interacting with your TV that way, the learning curve feels a little steep.
By the time the second week rolled around, things clicked. Once I got used to it, the AI companion actually became my favourite feature. You can ask it for recommendations on the latest music or K-dramas, and it responds remarkably fast with both text answers and relevant video clips.
Where it truly won me over was in the kitchen planning department. On busy evenings when I needed to whip up a quick dinner, I could simply tell the AI that I was craving Indian food, and it immediately pulled up cooking shows and step-by-step YouTube recipes right on screen.
Screensavers
Another lovely touch is the screensaver mode. When we aren’t actively watching anything, the TV doubles as a backdrop with a huge variety of wallpaper choices, including Generative Wallpapers that keep the living room looking fresh
