Making big purchases for your new home? Don’t leave air miles lying on the table.
By Le Wen -
Apart from our upcoming wedding, the next huge milestone (and yes, expense!) on our journey is definitely renovating our new home. For BTO owners out there, renovation costs can easily range from around $30,000 for smaller 4-room flats to close to $100,000 for larger 5-room renovation projects — so it’s a big deal! With a spending spree like that, why leave money on the table?
This is where smart credit card hacks and payment strategies really shine to help you rack up serious miles and rewards that make your spend feel a little more rewarding.
As someone who’s passionate about squeezing every mile and reward point out of my spending, my mission for this renovation phase is simple: Maximise those miles and get the best bang for every buck spent on home essentials.
In this article, I’ll share the best 4 mpd (mile per dollar) credit cards to use for furniture and appliances, plus some solid backup cards, and a bunch of insider pro tips to make your home shopping spree go further than you expected. Let’s get into it — because home renovation deserve big rewards!
For Home Furniture and Appliance Purchases
When it comes to big-ticket home purchases like furniture and appliances, using the right credit cards can make a massive difference in miles earned. These air miles credit cards consistently deliver around 4 mpd when you get your home renovation done.
Now that we’ve got that clear, here are the best credit cards we’re using (and recommend) for home furniture and appliance purchases:
HSBC Revolution Card (Revo)
Payment method: Contactless, Atome
The HSBC Revolution Card remains one of the most versatile 4 mpd earners for home furnishings and appliances when used contactlessly or via the popular Atome Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) service.
If you prefer shopping in-store, paying with contactless tap is a breeze and earns you 4mpd at electronics stores like Best Denki, Harvey Norman, or Gain City.
What’s even better? The HSBC Revo card actively runs extra reward points activities such as 10× Reward points on online travel and contactless spending (until 31 March 2026) such as shopping, dining, ride hailing, memberships, and travel.
Using Atome alongside Revo lets you split expensive buys into smaller, fee-free instalments, all while still enjoying that coveted 4 mpd. Just remember to pay on time to keep your finances on track.
4 Miles per Dollar
To get the 4 mpd rate, you first need to earn 10X Reward Points per S$1 spent. This is typically earned on eligible online and contactless spending (capped at S$1,000 to S$1,500 per month depending on abovementioned credit card promotions). You will then need to enroll in the “HSBC Mileage Programme.” There is an annual fee of S$40 + GST (though this can sometimes be waived with 9,000 reward points).
The minimum transfer is usually 10,000 miles. A unique benefit of HSBC is that after the first 10,000 miles, you can often transfer in tiny increments (as low as 2-mile blocks), which prevents “orphan points” from being stuck in your account.
HSBC Revolution Card Airlines
In the HSBC system, 10 Reward Points = 4 Miles ONLY if the transfer ratio is 2.5 : 1. Some airlines that are est for HSBC Revolution Card include:
- British Airways/ Qatar Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- EVA Air
- Air France-KLM
- Qantas
If you transfer to Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer), the ratio is worse (3:1), meaning you only effectively earn 3.33 mpd. If your goal is strictly Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer), the HSBC Revolution is slightly less efficient (3.33 mpd) than cards like the DBS Woman’s World Card or Citi Rewards, which give a true 4 mpd to KrisFlyer.
Citi Rewards Mastercard (CRMC)
Payment method: Online spend, Atome, paired with Amaze (for overseas spend)
This credit card is a powerhouse for online spend, rewarding an impressive 4 mpd on online transactions including e-commerce platforms like Lazada, Shopee, Taobao and retailer websites of furniture and appliance stores.
The credit card’s blacklist approach, wide merchant acceptance and monthly cap of $1,000 per statement month lets you comfortably run up miles on most home essentials. Plus, it has no minimum spend to unlock these 4 mpd rewards, making it hassle-free.
If you’re planning to shop for furniture and appliances in Johor Bahru, here’s a neat trick to boost your miles with CRMC: pair it with the Amaze card.
For the uninitiated, Amaze is like YouTrip, but you get to earn full miles and categorise all your transactions as online spend. This means you can convert your in-person shopping into online transactions, unlocking the CRMC’s 4 mpd bonus on those big-ticket buys.
4 Miles per Dollar
To hit the 4 mpd rate, you need to earn 10X ThankYou Points per S$1 spent. This is capped at a S$1,000 spend (9,000 bonus points + 1,000 base points) per statement month.
Citi requires a minimum transfer of 25,000 ThankYou Points, which converts into 10,000 miles. You can then use the Citi Mobile App’s Rewards Dashboard to do points transfer under ‘Travel’. Citi requires a minimum transfer of 25,000 ThankYou Points, which converts into 10,000 miles.
Citi Rewards Mastercard Airlines
Citi has one of the best transfer partner lists in Singapore. Because their standard ratio is 2.5 TYP : 1 Mile, you get a clean 4 mpd across almost all their partners—including Singapore Airlines.
- Singapore Airlines
- Cathay Pacific
- British Airways
- Qatar Airways
- Turkish Airlines
- EVA Air
- Qantas
DBS Woman’s World Mastercard (WWMC)
Payment method: Online spend, Atome
Another strong option for online spending, the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard offers 4 mpd on online purchases, capped at $1,000 per calendar month. Use it the same way as you would with Citi Rewards.
However, one key difference to note: unlike Citi Rewards Mastercard, WWMC does not qualify for the 4 mpd bonus when used with Amaze. So if you’re shopping for home-related items overseas or plan to use Amaze to convert transactions into online spend, this card won’t give you the bonus miles.
4 Miles per Dollar
With this DBS Woman’s World Mastercard credit card, you earn 10 DBS Points for every S$5 nett spent online. Because 1 DBS Point = 2 Miles, this math works out to exactly 4 miles per dollar. DBS points expire after 1 year.
On the DBS Rewards website or DBS PayLah mobile app, you can transfer in blocks of 5,000 DBS Points (which equals 10,000 miles) at a flat fee of S$27.25 per transfer.
DBS Woman’s World Mastercard Airlines
DBS has a smaller pool of partners compared to Citi or HSBC, but the 4 mpd rate is consistent across these airlines:
- Singapore Airlines
- Cathay Pacific
- Qantas
- AirAsia
UOB Preferred Platinum Visa
Payment method: mobile contactless and selected online transactions
Starting from 1 October 2025, the UOB Preferred Platinum Visa’s 4 mpd monthly cap of $1,200 will be split into two separate $600 sub-caps — one for mobile contactless payments and another for selected online transactions (Yes, MCC 5732 is eligible for bonuses).
This means you’ll have distinct limits to plan your spending, so it’s even more important to strategise how you distribute purchases between tapping your phone and shopping online to fully maximise your miles.
To get the bonus points, add your card to your mobile wallet and make payments via your phone. After that, throw the physical card away keep it in your drawer because payment with the physical UOB Preferred Platinum Visa card WILL NOT warrant any bonus points.
4 Miles per Dollar
The UOB Preferred Platinum Visa rewards credit card is specifically designed to give you 4 miles per dollar (mpd) when you “tap and pay” with your phone at physical stores (Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay). You earn 10 UNI$ for every S$5 spent on eligible categories. Since 1 UNI$ = 2 Miles, this equals 4 mpd.
On the UOB mobile app’s Rewards section, find “Fly with Miles” and you convert reward points to miles in blocks of 5,000 UNI$ (which gets you 10,000 miles). The conversion fee is S$27.25 (inc. GST) per transaction.
UOB Preferred Platinum Visa Airlines
UOB has a much smaller list of partners than Citi or HSBC. If you want 4 mpd, you are essentially limited to three major airlines:
- Singapore Airlines
- Cathay Pacific
- AirAsia
KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card
Payment method: Kris+, online shopping
Though it offers a base earning rate of 3 mpd, slightly lower than the other 4 mpd cards, the KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card stands out for its unlimited miles with no monthly earning cap.
This makes it an excellent choice for high spenders who often exceed the bonus caps on other cards or those who prefer to consolidate most of their renovation and furnishing spend onto a single, reliable card.
3 Miles per Dollar
Unlike the previous cards we discussed, this one does not earn bank points that you convert later. Instead, it earns direct KrisFlyer miles that are automatically deposited into your account.
- 3 Miles per Dollar: SIA, Scoot, KrisShop, Pelago
- 2.4 Miles per Dollar: Dining, Online Shopping, Travel, Transport
- 1.2 Miles per Dollar: All other spend
For furniture and appliances, purchases under MCC 5732 qualify for the unlimited 3 mpd, but only when done online. In-store purchases and transactions made via the Amaze prepaid card do not earn bonus miles, so it’s best suited for web-based shopping portals.
You can also boost your miles further by paying with Kris+ at participating retailers such as Harvey Norman (3 miles / $3 spent) and Challenger (2 miles / $2 spent). Kris+ payments sometimes earn additional KrisFlyer miles on top of your card’s base earn rate, making it well worth considering during your renovation shopping trips.
$1,000 Spend with Singapore Airlines Group
According to a detailed Milelion review, this card is particularly useful for those who want steady KrisFlyer miles accumulation without the hassle of juggling card caps. There is one condition though: a minimum annual spend of $1,000 with the Singapore Airlines Group is required to maintain eligibility, which is manageable for mile chasers.

Credit Cad MCCs are important!
Merchant Category Codes, or MCCs, are four-digit numbers assigned to businesses that classify the type of goods or services they provide. Think of MCCs as labels that credit card companies use to categorise your spending.
These codes are crucial because many credit cards offer bonus rewards for specific MCC categories. For example, furniture and appliance stores like Best Denki, Harvey Norman, and Gain City are classified under MCC 5732 (Electronics Stores). Knowing this helps you pick the right credit card or payment method to maximise your rewards on those big purchases.
Paywave or Credit Card matters, too!
Besides picking the right credit card, how you pay makes a big difference too. Many of the best miles-earning cards boost rewards for specific payment methods, especially online payments and contactless/contactless-like transactions (including mobile wallets).
For example, if you use mobile contactless payments with the UOB Preferred Platinum Visa, you can earn 4 mpd bonus miles. If you tap the physical credit card, you won’t earn any bonus miles.
However, if you PayWave using the DBS Woman’s World Mastercard or Citi Rewards Mastercard, you won’t get the bonus miles since these two cards require online transactions to qualify for 4 mpd.
