Citi Rewards Mastercard: 10 Points per $1 on online shopping, many home & electronics promotions
By Home & Decor Team -
The Citi Rewards Card was originally launched in Singapore in 2010. When the card was first introduced, it was issued primarily on the Visa network (Citi Rewards Visa).
Following a global partnership agreement between Citigroup and Mastercard signed in 2015, Citibank progressively migrated its credit cards in Singapore over to Mastercard.
By March 2020, Citibank officially stopped issuing the Visa version for new applicants, making the Citi Rewards Mastercard the version available today.
The Citi Rewards Card became a staple in the Singapore miles and rewards credit card circuit for their generous 10 points per $1 spend on shopping, and a now defunct Instarem Amaze overseas spending partnership.
Today, the Citi Rewards Mastercard charges an annual principal fee of $196.20 (includes 9% GST), which is automatically waived for the first year. Citibank does not award bonus reward points or miles when you pay the annual renewal fee.
However, if you spend around $10,000 to $12,000 a year, you can try requesting for a Citi Rewards Mastercard annual fee waiver via the Citi Mobile App (Settings > Connect > Annual Fee Waiver).
10 Bonus points per $1 spent
Citibank has a pretty straightforward reward points programme for their Citi Rewards Mastercard. You get 1 reward point per $1 spent. If your transaction is eligible, you get another 9 reward points per $1 (making it a total of 10 points).
| Citi Rewards Mastercard | Points | Maximum Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Base Point | 1 per $1 spent | Unlimited |
| Bonus Points | 9 per $1 spent | 9,000 bonus points per credit card statement month (or max $1,000 spend) |
| Miles per $1 | 4 mpd | 4,000 miles per statement month |
Online shopping
How do you make sure my Citi Rewards Mastercard credit card transactions are eligible for the 10 bonus points? Easy, just shop online.
For Citi Rewards Mastercard, most online shopping transactions will qualify you for the 10 bonus points. However, you cannot use mobile wallets (like PayLah, ShopeePay, Grab Wallet). Also, travel transactions are not eligible.
Physical shops
If you’d like to shop in-person, in the physical stores and shopping malls, you can only shop at these places:
| Type of Shops | Merchant Category Code (MCC) |
|---|---|
| Department Stores (eg. Takashimaya, TANGS, Mustafa) | MCC 5311 |
| Boys & Men's Clothing and Accessories Stores | MCC 5611 |
| Women's Ready-to-Wear Stores | MCC 5621 |
| Women's Accessory and Specialty Stores | MCC 5631 |
| Children's and Infants' Wear Stores | MCC 5641 |
| Family Clothing Stores | MCC 5651 |
| Sports Apparel and Riding Apparel Stores | MCC 5655 |
| Shoe Stores | MCC 5661 |
| Men's and Women's Clothing Stores | MCC 5691 |
| Miscellaneous Apparel and Accessory Shops (eg. Shopee) | MCC 5699 |
| Luggage and Leather Goods Stores | MCC 5948 |
Most of the approved physical shops are clothing and shoes-related. For home furniture, appliances, and decor, you can only bank on Department Stores (MCC 5311) like Takashimaya and TANGS, or Miscellaneous Apparel and Accesory Shops (MCC 5699) like Shopee.
However, you will frequently find Electronics, Home Essentials, and online shopping (like Lazada and Amazon) promotions and deals on the Citi World Privileges website.
Credit card points expiry
Your Citibank credit card reward points are called Citi ThankYou Points. They expire every 5 years, starting from your credit card’s approval date. Let’s take for example, your Citibank rewards credit card was approved on 5 August 2026. All your points will have the same expiry date of 4 August 2031.
Convert points to air miles
You can convert your Citi ThankYou Rewards points to air miles via the Citi Mobile App’s “ThankYou Points > Travel” section. Choose your desired airline frequent flyer program, link your membership account number, and enter the number of miles you wish to redeem.
You will need to transfer in blocks of 25,000 Citi ThankYou points (gives you 10,000 air miles).
Common mistakes include mismatched names - the first and last names on both your Citibank card and your airline’s frequent flyer account must match exactly for the conversion to go through.
There will be an admin fee of $27.25 (inclusive of GST) per transaction, and the transfer may take up to 14 days.
| Frequent Flyer Programme | Citi ThankYou Points to Miles |
|---|---|
| Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer) | 2.5 Points = 1 Mile |
| Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles) | 2.5 Points = 1 Mile |
| British Airways (Executive Club Avios) | 2.5 Points = 1 Mile |

If you fly on SQ and are collecting KrisFlyer miles, great for you!
You can skip the 14 days and the $27.25 admin fee completely.
Go to your Kris+ app, go to your Wallet, Transfer Points, and choose Citibank. You can then log in to your Citibank account and link your Citi Rewards Mastercard.
Hereafter, you can just use the Kris+ mobile app to “pull” your Citi reward points to your Kris+ wallet. Finally, transfer the points to your Krisflyer account where it will stay as miles.
You will need to transfer in blocks of 10,000 Citi ThankYou points (gives you 3,400 KrisFlyer miles). The transfer will be free. However, you will realise you are getting marginally lesser air miles via this method.
| Citi Mobile App | Kris+ Mobile App | |
|---|---|---|
| Fees | $27.25 | $0 |
| Transfer in blocks of... | 25,000 points | 10,000 points |
| You'll get... | 10,000 miles | 3,400 miles |
| Conversion ratio | 2.5 : 1 (better) | 2.94 : 1 (not so good) |
| Good for... | Transferring over 50k points | Small 10k, 20k points transfers |
Use your Krisflyer miles within 3 years from the date of transfer. Else, they will expire.
